We have used Teamviewer in the past but this proves quite expensive. any advice, thought or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks
synaesthesia Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 What do they actually need? Full PC access, or just files? Home Access Plus is a free and reliable solution for that. Also Office 365, Google Apps can often eliminate the need for this sort of setup if you're using it fully. Failing that, you'd probably be better off with a remote desktop server, so people aren't going into their own computers. Saves power, time, bandwidth and certainly more reliable. Look up Remote Desktop Services on your Windows server.
lmrogers Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I have setup RemoteApps here and that has given staff access to everything they need. They can open all their documents through the various programs such as Word and they can even open and use SIMS.
Katy Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 We have a RDS server for all staff/pupil remote access (gives them access to files stored at school plus a few of the school applications that are installed on it). A couple of staff require access to their actual PC and we just enable remote desktop on the specific PCs, then have them connect via the remote desktop gateway running on the RDS server (this tends to just be the person doing the timetabling etc plus technical staff). We also try to cut down reliance on remote access by pushing Office365.
ITGURU Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I'm not using remote desktop as such to remote on to their school computer. Instead I use RemoteApp to publish the software, programs and live file access. If they don't want to access network drives live, they use HAP
TwistedHelixis Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 All my primary schools have used remote desktop services for the last 6+ years. It's been great and I have not needed to do anything with the software since it was installed, apart from update a certificate.
Oaktech Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I have an RDP server with RDP gateway on it. This means people who need special programs (like finance) can just connect to their PC via the gateway, but everyone else just uses the RDP server with a general use set of apps on it. I also have a direct access solution in place for a number of our more tech savvy users who run 8.1 portable devices.

If you have fixed classroom PC's then go Remote Desktop solution and by this I mean go buy a server and setup Remote Desktop or App not leave computers on and Remote into. P.s. All up and running, put the second session host in end of last week @Tefters ended up going with RD Web Access via Azure AD App Proxy then had to put the RD Gateway through the firewall. Seems if RD Gateway goes via Azure App Proxy you lose the UDP functionality and graphics performance suffers, hope MS look into that at some point.

I'm not ready to start using Azure yet as my Hypervisor infrastructure is quite large and I originally built it with plenty of wiggle/upgrade room.
