NB9457 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I can't wait for the day they make enterprise grade core switches, I know they've just released their pure fiber 10Gb switch, but sadly it lacks proper stacking and redundant PSUs and what not. Here's hoping though, because I love the price, simplicity and quality they provide.

So wouldn't be able to work out if it should jump APs if the one it was connected to was experencing high load... have I got old/incorrect info here? synaesthesia Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 All the switches we bought recently are POE+, I don't think HP even punt any POE kit that isn't poe+ compliant - that'd be a non-issue. And looking at the GUI, they handle full meshing and they are well balanced, so it appears as if they're doing just that. It's worth having a play with their demo, it looks powerful enough to knock Ruckus off whilst keeping their signature ease of use. 1

To be fair i haven't used any other wireless system but i also don't want to! Not in secondary/higher, but have to agree that I can't see the point in paying more at the moment. I've only had experience of "home" APs and Cisco otherwise, (obviously) wouldn't recommend the former and while the latter was generally OK (though whoever installed it didn't do a very good site survey) when something went wrong getting someone who could sort it out was a nightmare.

AlanD Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 I think quite a number of wave 2 access points require POE+ to work at their full capacity. Many are advertised as "will work with 802.11af" - but they don't tell you that it will only be two streams at 40Mhz. In reality of course - in a dense classroom environment - its impossible to deploy access points that are going to use 80 or 160MHz channels - so "ac" and "ac wave 2" are never the magic wand for providing you with gigabit wireless (OK...maybe with the exception of Meru's single channel architecture)
