Im really giving this some serious thought ,

we moved to a single lunchtime (from a split lunch) so im strugeling to fit stuff in and eat as well* so looking at huel as a food sub for lunch not everyday just on the days i need to eat and run

* my choice i could just take a full lunch and not do any jobs but choose not to and get the time back later in the day as it suites me better *

how are people that have tried it finding it any recomendations?

thanks

Andy

Have you tried it before? if not get a sample pouch - most people I've made try it have hated it ;) for me it's generally on par with most protein shake style things but it's a bit more gritty so if you're fine with that then go for it! I usually have vanilla huel (2/3 scoops) in the morning with a banana added in and sometimes some proper cacao powder. I've had it for lunch once or twice but it didn't fill me up enough, but I potentially just needed more scoops of huel..

I've used it twice as an additional meal \ protein top-up but there's something in there that doesn't agree with me. Always seem to end up feeling nauseous a few hours after consuming it :(

You cannot replace a proper lunch and it seems to be something 99% of the population don't realise. It's less about food and more about finding time halfway through the day to switch off, unwind and possibly socialise.

Personally? I don't give a rats about socialising. I like most of the staff here, insofar as colleagues can be liked, but I don't want to sit in the staff room and hear them [female dog] to each other about how Bobby was being a prat in Period 2, and that reminds me of when little Janet brought in a bottle of vodka, or that Daniel said something really inappropriate. It's not for me, so I eat at my desk and read news/etc for my lunch. Sometimes I go for a walk, but usually that's just to actually buy some lunch.

The reason I've been briefly looking at meal replacements is quite simple: I'm a fat git, and I'm lazy. Okay fine, I'm not Hugh Mungus, but I got a stomach I could stand to lose. I can cook to a reasonable degree (It's edible, and it tastes pretty decent) but I actually know nothing about nutrition. I'm not expecting any kind of meal replacement to be an easy way out so I don't need to learn to cook properly, but it still takes time. It's easy to cook a healthy meal, but nobody wants to eat the same thing all the time, so the much better solution is to learn about health in general. Rather than memorise a bunch of healthy recipes, I'd rather be able to formulate my own by knowing why healthy things are healthy, y'know?

So I reckon I'm gonna give Huel (or similar) a bash for now, see what it's like. If it's no good, it's no good, and I'm back to square one with only a small financial penalty for the experience. I'm OK with that.

You know you can just Google why things are healthy? I pulled this up in less than a minute, NHS must be a decent source of information...

Before you consider joining the Cult of Huel. You should watch episode 6, season 4 of Dave Gorman's Modern Life is Goodish. ;)

Thank goodness you said it, as that's all I could think about.

I appreciate that research is a vital part of learning, but Googling something does not equate to actually possessing knowledge. Edited by Garacesh

But reading the results and learning from them is.

But there exists a transitional period, and in that interim, a substitute can be acceptable :p

Yes I'm looking to get a better grasp of food and nutrition in general, but I'm also not devoting all my time to it as if it were an actual study/class/etc.

The main reason I turned to Huel was because I was having problems with food and I wanted to rule things out. I ended up feeling quite sick and bloated after drinking a shake - BUT after visiting a dietician and being told I have an issue with Fructose, I suspect this may have been the reason (as I was having huel with the strawberry flavour).

I subbed breakfast and lunch and used a blender to mix it. It filled me up fine and I actually looked forward to it.

If you can handle drinking thick gloop of any texture and flavour then defo give it a go. If you gag at the thought of a lump in your shake, it may not be for you - go for a trial pack.

@Garacesh - I've got a ton of meals plans that I got when I had that PT... if you want me to send them to you let me know :) (it's basically meat and vegetables!)

Ooh that would be fantastic :)

I do really need to get myself into some semblance of shape (round is a shape?) but part of my problem, and I'll admit to it, is that I'm a little apathetic towards the idea. I know I should.. but truth be told I don't really want to.. I just kinda-sorta want to.

Well I got my 100g pouch today.. Used 50g with 300ml of water, and a few strawberries thrown in just for the taste.

First impressions are.. it's palatable. It'll be an acquired texture.

Is huel usually a bit.. bitty..? Or do I just have a rubbish blender? :p

Do you have a shaker bottle as well as the blender? My friend has a blender but swears the shaker bottle gets the final bits out to make it more smooth.

Nah, you don't get any of that with the 100g pouch. But apparently, it comes out smoother if you add the powder to the water, and not vice verca like I did, so I'll try that tomorrow.
