elsiegee40 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) A quick poll to find out who is coming to BETT on what days (Note to app users go into web view to see the poll) BETT runs from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th January. The poll is public; you can view respondents by clicking the number on the right of the graph bar. Feel free to comment below as well. If you're staying over in London, you might want to give your hotel/location as well so you can find edugeek buddies to keep you company for beer* and/or dinner. * Other beverages exist Edited January 4, 2017 by elsiegee40
AJWhite1970 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Lucky enough to be going all 4 days this year, coming up Tuesday evening going back Saturday night. Will be staying in The International at Canary Warf
elsiegee40 Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) I'm going to be on the edugeek stand all days, but will be staying at home in Kent. Fortunately that doesn't exclude socialising after the show Edited January 4, 2017 by elsiegee40
GREED Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 All week on the stand... Not sure who I have annoyed internally to deserve that! 1
witch Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I can stay either Thurs or Friday night or both but I am struggling to find a hotel that is near Excel and cheap enough. Dont want to be stuck miles from anywhere on my own
bald_pig Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'll be going on Friday and Saturday, I volunteered myself for the stand on Saturday but never heard anything back. I only live in zone 6 so no hotel for me.
Kingstech Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'm going to be going up on the Saturday. I'm driving up on the Friday evening and staying at a hotel at Heathrow Airport. It is far enough out of London to get to easy ish but not a pain to get into London on the tube the next day.
BKGarry Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'll be going Friday and Saturday :-) Got to love being just close enough to do it @witch I was thinking maybe booking the Ibis in the docklands, but its £80 a night, but you are more than welcome to come and stay at mine in :L-)
GrumbleDook Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I'll be there all week. Friday will be face paint Friday again and off to the Teachmeet in the evening. Looks like we are using AirBNB this time for accommodation ...
CAM Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 All week on the stand... Not sure who I have annoyed internally to deserve that! Does this mean you will be there on a Saturday at last?
GREED Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Does this mean you will be there on a Saturday at last? It does... There is no emoji that appropriately describes my face right now...
crc-ict Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) No BETT for me this year. I don't think the budget can stand the price of the train ticket, never mind the cost of anything I might decide I want to buy there Having said that, I won't miss the hassle of trying to get out to ExCel. Must be one of the worst connected venues in London - the DLR just can't cope. Tip I found last time though - couldn't face the DLR crush on the way out, so walked down to Royal Victoria and got the Emirates Air Line cable car over to North Greenwich and took the Jubilee Line back to Central London from there. Seemed to save time, and was certainly more pleasant! Edited January 6, 2017 by crc-ict Apparently I can't type! 1
mikeprice Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I'll be there from about lunch time on Friday should be safe this year as @witch hasn't threatened to turn me into anything for several months now! 1
Zoom7000 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Managed to get permission to attend all week, gonna sit down and plan everything out properly this time! Seeing as I have 4 days, I'll be hoping to attend a lot more of the keynote speeches. I wonder if the security guards will let me in again this year at 8am. They did last year and I was shocked at just how many iPads, MacBooks, Dell XPS and other very expensive items were just lying around completely unattended and unsecured ready for someone to "innocently" grab mistake as one of the freebies!
witch Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I'll be there from about lunch time on Friday should be safe this year as @witch hasn't threatened to turn me into anything for several months now! @mikeprice I'm now going to be there from lunchtime on Friday too - so beware. Just make sure you make yourself known to me
Devontechie Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I'll be there on the Saturday again this year. Need to sort out my personalised bett badge
DJ-1701 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 May head up on the Saturday. At least that way I won't have to fill out a 'training' form designed for teachers.
JonThompson Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 What's the best day to go? I've been asked if I want to go this year instead of the boss. I haven't booked in yet, I was thinking Thursday for me? I'd probably get the train to London as work would probably pay for that, or I could drive down. What's the best option?
elsiegee40 Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 What's the best day to go? I've been asked if I want to go this year instead of the boss. I haven't booked in yet, I was thinking Thursday for me? I'd probably get the train to London as work would probably pay for that, or I could drive down. What's the best option? I live in Kent - only 39 miles away, and wouldn't dream of driving on a weekday. The M25 is too much of a lottery and I'm cream-crackered by the end of the show - more than happy for the train to take the strain. Wednesday is quietest. Apart from that, take a look at what's on offer by way of presentations in the main theatres. The programme changes and there may be something you want to see on one day that isn't on another.
RichCowell Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I'll be there all four days, really looking forward to it, though my feet aren't quite as enthusiastic!!
maturelady Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 My husband’s health will prevent me from attending this year but I will be following with great interest online, through social media and on Edugeek. One thing that really bugs me is that in previous years I visit a stand and see something really exciting only to learn that the concept is ‘in development’ – vapourware. There are some very reputable companies that do this every year. I’m particularly interested in apps for parent engagement, communication, attainment tracking and reporting. Could any of my BETT visitor colleagues name any products broadcasted in company literature as new and innovative that they think is just vapourware? Have a great BETT and take care of those feet. 1
