Badzeye Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Hello all, Ive made my return to IT support in education after working for a small MSP for a while. One thing I really loved using there was the CRM system which kept track of tickets and projects you created. I was just wondering if anyone has any experiance using similar software preferably ona budget within schools? Were a school of baout 800 kids and have just become a MAT and im sure I will be involvd with the other school before long so would like to have somewhere to have all my thoughts and keep track of projects im working on, rather than on a piece of paper. Thanks
hardtailstar Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Spiceworks - Its free! https://www.spiceworks.com/ A lot of us on here have it. 1
yac2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Freshdesk is brilliant and free for up to 3 users.
theeggmaster Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Spiceworks Cloud version is free also (link)
Badzeye Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 Thanks ill have to check those out and get the staff to actually use it...
dhutchinson Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 We've been using OP SmartDesk for our helpdesk. https://www.opsoftware.net/op-smartdesk-great-for-customer-support-ict-help-desk-and-asset-management/
kearton Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 We use ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, which is free.
Mr_Jiminy Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) We use ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, which is free. We've been considering this... How has it worked out for you? Edited January 5, 2017 by Mr_Jiminy
mowgli82 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I came across this the other day, not tried it though: https://plumsail.com/sharepoint-helpdesk/
synaesthesia Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 We used and liked OPSmartDesk but decided to go free to OSTicket - very happy with it, very flexible & customisable.
kearton Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 We've been considering this... How has it worked out for you? Yes, we love it. It does everything we want it to, and more. Our 10000th ticket should be logged today or tomorrow. (We're giving the user who logs it a small prize) 1
Mr_Jiminy Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 We use SDP. We all hate it, but its free... Care to explain why?
skell Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 The interface is unintuitive and you can't create a conditional workflow for tickets. But its free. 1
NB9457 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Another for manage engine, better than some of the paid solutions I've seen too!
Arcolite Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 We used to use ManageEngine SDP but the last few years we've been using a Dell KACE Management Appliance (now Quest KACE). Not only does it do our Helpdesk, but it also does Assets, Inventory and Application Deployment, Patching and Scripting via an Agent.
MatthewL Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 ManageEngine isn't bad, even got a mobile app like Spiceworks so you can access it on the go providing you have access. Some former colleagues who have setup have the paid for version of ManageEngine and it does have some nice add in's which is good in a corporate world especially around audits etc.
mrbios Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 There's never one helpdesk that does it all >_< I want and prefer the change control functionality in SDP. I prefer the overall look of spiceworks, not to mention the additional functionality like network monitoring. I want the booking system functionality in OPSD. (There's other things too that i've noted while looking through them all, but i can't remember waht they were...but each one had positives and negatives) I want all the best bits of all 3 in one product damnit!!!!....
CAWJames Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 OSTicket here osTicket :: Support Ticket System | osTicket been using it for ages, and works really well as a standalone helpdesk with AD integration
mortimerj Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Yes, we love it. It does everything we want it to, and more. Our 10000th ticket should be logged today or tomorrow. (We're giving the user who logs it a small prize) were they happy with their prize?
kearton Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 were they happy with their prize? Very! (there's a massive smile under that pixelation ) 1
fiza Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 We've been considering this... How has it worked out for you? We use manageengine servicedesk plus for our primary school to log calls. Works a treat.
ADMaster Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I use webhelpdesk they were acquired by solarwinds a few years ago. It used to be free for 1 tech, not sure if that is still the case. It is very customizable and does asset and parts inventory. When I made the decision it was between them and sysaid, but our LEA used webhelpdesk so that's what I went with.

Prices have now jumped crazily however. We still use it though as it does exactly what we need it to do.
