Dos_Box Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks for your replies so far, I'll just bump this again and please remember, if you have any questions for Google about G Suite for Education please post them up here and we shall forwards them on.
ITBadger Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks for posting this. I'll be joining the webinar. In terms of questions for Google, I'm interested to hear about their plans for Team Drive and how this can best be used in schools. 2
fiza Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 We have just joined the Early Adopter program for Team drive and I want to know if when Team Drive is released fully Admins will have the ability to switch off access to Team Drive for different OUs? Will Admins be able to restrict who can create team drives? We can switch off TD at the moment but it says we can only do this until 1/1/2018 when all users will be able to create Team Drives.
tj2419 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'd like to join. Questions Do they have any plans to release anything like SIS (School Information Sync) for Office 365?
Dos_Box Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Keep 'em coming We'll be sending these over to Google tomorrow afternoon. All good questions so far.
kuryakin Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Hi there I would be interested. Regards Martin 1
chinesewhispers Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'd like to be in. - When can we have vertical text in Sheets!? - When can we have the ability for YouTube videos in Slides to autostart when the slide appears? - Is Classroom content part of Vault? If inappropriate content is shared through chat/comments, can it be traced? - 1
PrimaryNetMan Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'm interested. -Do google have any plans to ever introduce pen / ink tools into G-Suite, allowing SMART Boards / touchscreens to integrate better? -With the new KCSIE document in mind, is it on their road map for G-Suite for Education to include any inbuilt filtering / monitoring? -Currently the TEAMS beta program is limited to the primary G-Suite domain. Will the final release support sub-domains? -clever.com users are able to logon to Chromebooks via QR codes. Will Google ever offer this method without the need for 3rd parties? 1
pete Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Also interested. Not sure if I'll definitely be able to make it. Question-wise: How long will using Azure Active Directory as a source of truth/authentication be supported?
ITBadger Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Maybe not a question for Google, but have they spoken to Capita about using G-Suite with SIMS in place of MS Office? This is one of the major factors tying us to the MS ecosystem. We may consider going fully Google if this could be overcome, particularly in light of MS's price restructuring. Also, how will the convergence of ChromeOS and Android impact on the Education sector?
Dos_Box Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 10 mins to cutoff time. If you have any questions please post them up now. If you can't think of any yet don't worry, there will be time at the end of the webinar to ask questions (time permitting). We shall be posting a link to the event shortly.
hudzen76 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I'd like to join please! Appreciate it's more around Chromebooks, but could usage tracking for students within the console be on the cards?
Dos_Box Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Thanks everyone, I'll pass these on now.
chinesewhispers Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Past the deadline, but one to ask tomorrow: - When a user is added to a group, can they automatically inherit rights to items previously shared with the group rather than having to re-share items to the entire groups again. 1
RLR Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 (edited) Past the deadline, but one to ask tomorrow: - When a user is added to a group, can they automatically inherit rights to items previously shared with the group rather than having to re-share items to the entire groups again. This comes up all the time. The answer by google is the user does get permissions to the folder but the folder doesn't get added automatically. Googles answer to this is then to use link sharing and send the new user the link and they can add to their drive from there. Edit: You can setuo GAM (https://github.com/jay0lee/GAM/) which can connect directly to Google API's and add items to users drive without them having to do anything. Edited December 8, 2016 by RLR

This is where Team Drives will fill the void. User joins a Team Drive and automatically gets access to all the documents in the Team Drive.

I've signed up for early access to this, but haven't heard anything. Is there anything else I need to do? Or is it not available even on early access yet?
fiza Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I've signed up for early access to this, but haven't heard anything. Is there anything else I need to do? Or is it not available even on early access yet? I signed up and then got an email asking me to complete a form with further details and send my users a survey to complete. Once that was done I received an email about a week later saying we had been accepted for early access and Team Drives would be enabled shortly. We have had the Team Drives since Tuesday.
jmak Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Ahhhh. I declined the option to send users a survey, so maybe I'm lower down the pecking order...
