Who are you using for SIP lines?

I've been told to go ahead and roll out a trust-wide phone system, and I want to move us all from analog lines over to SIP trunks.

 

So, who are you guys using for SIP trunking? Any recommendations?

We use OrbTalk. No particular reason apart from they are the approved company for 3CX and the company we got to install went with them. Only been with them since Aug but no issues so far.

Anyone heard of VOIP Unlimited? They do an unlimited channel package for £10.99 per month! Seems to good to be true. (Call costs are on top of course).

Using voicehost.co.uk for our leased line and SIP trunk. Would recommend, experiences so far have been good, as have prices.

Have a look at APR Telecoms. We've not made the switchover yet, but they provided and support our IPCortex phone system. We got comparative quotes in from several suppliers and APR were by far cheapest for us. I'll see if I can get some more info when I get into work.

We use a company called Arrow communications who resell for gamma. We are on the hosted Horizon platform. I would go direct to Gamma when our renewal is up.

We went with Spitfire 18 months ago, who charge £4 per trunk though their call costs were unbeatable against many 3cx providers at the time.

At the time Gamma were not compatible/approved with 3cx, but I believe they now are and it may be that we look at their offering to see if they can better Spitfire's price.

We signed up to an initial 3 month contract to ensure that things worked as expected, it was reliable etc.

We'd be happy to provide a quote, we have supplied IP voice to many schools, and can combine with broadband if required. Particularly good for a MAT environment too - happy to provide references if needed,

Was with Gamma until recently, when our account was "upgraded" to a new server which then didn't accept the dialling rules our NEC PBX was enforcing, and they refused to move us back to the system that worked.

 

We have since moved to Node4 Ltd.

I am weighing up the financial impact of paying a little more for the trunks but getting a fair use limit that seems reasonable (and it seems to be stackable on how many trunks you get).

Ours offers that yes. we saved about 66% on the call costs. One of out primaries is going to be joining the Trust phone services and they are saving thousands. Its enough the pay for the private circuit that will feed there entire IT service!

We're a Gamma reseller, and offer this service too. You can go direct, but we find that we are often cheaper, and provide a more responsive service. We can also overlay filtered broadband too, which can generate additional savings..

I'm not sure what they mean. There are generally 2 main ways of providing IP voice. Using a broadband line that has traffic prioritisation for voice which is usually delivered alongside a hosted telephony service or a SIP trunk, which is effectively a dedicated voice channel that terminates on your providers voice network for breakout into the wider telephone network. This is normally sold alongside an on-premise PBX.

 

The 1st method is generally a single provider solution for both the hosted telephony and broadband. As has been mentioned on other threads, many ISPs won't support third party SIP or voice traffic, and the only way to ensure voice quality is to have a direct peer and QOS throughout the network.

 

The 2nd method allows you to obtain a PBX (sometimes free-ish) and plug SIP trunks from a different provider into it.

 

You can of course go a 3rd route and use Skype or free internet voip services, but you won't necessarily get assured quality and you will still need a subscription and billing arrangement for off-net calls etc.
