RM Easymail to be dropped within 60 days?

Hi,

 

I can't see this already mentioned anywhere, but apologies if its already been posted.

 

One of the primary schools we support has received a letter from RM saying that Easymail will be dropped and giving the school 60 days to migrate to an alternative. We have quite a few schools still using it, so we're going to have to find some way to get them all migrated to O365 before the end of term. RM will migrate for you, but they'll charge £300 per year (per year seems odd for a single time migration!). It appears if you do nothing, after the 60 days, your access will be revoked and all your email will be deleted.

 

Anyone heard anything about this?

I'm sure there is a post on here somewhere about it. Most schools have received the letter now - even some that aren't even using it anymore.

 

Migrating is pretty straight forward but if you need help there are companies out there to do it.

 

Some charge as little as £150 (that's a one off fee) per school

We have quite a few on the forums that moved to Office 365 (365) or Goggle AFE (GAFE).

It's usually relatively straightforward to migrate yourself. Although in the Early days of migration poor @witch had a nightmare with some accounts (but hey, I guess that is not-so-EasyMail for you!).

 

Personally I would do it in house, that way you have control over the system and not reliant of a 3rd Party to make any changes (which I assume is where the annual fee comes in).

If you take this route and have any issues, I am sure at least one of us would have come across them and mentioned it here. If not, I am sure we are all willing to help advise.

If you can persuade the schools to only migrate the really important emails such as HT, and SLT then the migration is much easier - one of my schools did this - gave the staff one week to copy and keep any important emails and then they lost them.

Totally disagree to that.

 

If it wasn't for the fact that you have to wait for DNS changes to propagate then a complete EasyMail to Office 365 is less than 2 hours work.

 

Doesn't matter if your migrating one or 100 mailboxes, as its all based on csv files it is very quick.

@snagrat I think you are forgetting the time it takes to migrate the data in accounts. When I did one school's migration, a lot were very near the end of their limit.

OK the larger users will take longer but once it's set going there is no need to return to the migration to complete it at all.

 

Users will just see there emails starting to appear.

It might take a while but better than having no data migrated at all.

 

I am doing some migrating of office 365 accounts, all users including students will be migrated over. I can't think of a good reason not to do everyone.

Just saying that the migration time is a factor as well as checking the migration logs.

@snagrat Maybe in your world. In mine, I had to write the csv files myself so the fewer the better

And I had a nightmare with around 20 accounts that wouldnt migrate no matter what
