Projector replacements

Need to slowly start replacing projectors in classrooms - the vast majority are ceiling mounted on poles.

 

With budgets being squeezed - I'm assuming other people will be in a similar situation and wondered what make and model projector people are using/installing these days.

Casio Core, the Lampless ones.

70 or so signature series, some slim series, and some ultra-short throws.

Epson EB585W or its interactive equivalent mostly.

We do occasionally get ceiling mounted projectors but at the moment when we need one we are reusing those that have come from classrooms which have since acquired smart interactive displays

Another one here for the Casio Core, bought a number of the first release (XJ-V1) and were really impressed. They have recently released the V10X with 3300 lumens and better zoom on it, we'll be looking at these in the next round of projector replacements.

 

Speak to @VeryPC_Colin_M as he has been by far the cheapest when sourcing the casio core projectors.

We've been going with the Epsons as above recently, although anything in future we will be looking at LCD screens if interactive is required.

How much are the Casio Cores going for as we currently use NEC M230X's which are about £350 each so if the cores are a suitable replacement for around the same price this may be worth looking into for us!

NEC M271X because they have a stupidly wide zoom. I've been replacing a hotch-potch of infocus, optoma, acer and epson units and in the 15 projectors I've replaced I've not had to move a mount yet!

 

Le Edit - I also use these because when I arrived I had a sizable spare lamp stock for the 230X and these take the same lamp, so I trialed one, discovered it's awesome zoom and bought 10 and then 5. I got them for £325 in the 10 batch and £350 each in the 5 batch, delivered.

The Casio would be an ideal replacement but I also need -

 

SVideo connection (Science have Microscopes with SVideo connections and use them!)

Video - They connect DVD/Video players

 

I would hear nothing but moaning if I replaced projectors without these connectors - some staff do not like change!!

 

 

Just bought a Benq MX528 for £258 as a test as I need to replace a handful of projectors in the summer.

 

The only annoying thing I am having is the need to move the ceiling pole so the image fits the smartboards correctly - needless to say the image don't fit until I get time to move the pole.

+1 to that, in all fairness I'm split between those and Casio atm as have some stupid rooms and the NECs are awesome at zoom

We've got one of the Casio core projectors and the image is great, but they're significantly less flexible on zoom range than average. Just measure first and use a throw calculator.

 

I prefer the ultra short throw projectors, but that does rely on a) the wall being strong enough and b) you be willing either to fit or pay someone else to fit. I've found it fairly straightforward, but reasonably time consuming.

 

This year it's replacement bulbs only due to (lack of) budget

I know Casio models they seem very happy to loan out, had 3 of the same model by different suppliers they were pushing the demo units so much (brand new Casio ones) so thought I'd stick them in a few rooms and test them properly

We started to use the Casio ones a few years back but we now use the Epson ones as for us the TCO was a lot less with them and the lamps are replaceable for around £50 whereas if the Casio ones start to fail (a couple that we have, have started to fade) then you cant change the lamp when they're out of warranty.

We have started replacing projectors in some rooms with Large TV's instead due to the fact its lower maintenance, also the cost of them has dropped a lot.

We are also getting them with Android TV built in so staff can stream to them etc.

 

Some rooms still need projectors as staff still use interactive boards but eventually these will be replaced too.

I've had a CASIO slim for about 4 years now, taken it everywhere with me, trains, planes etc. As a portable projector, you can't do much better. It's consistently brighter than any other projectors at places where I turn up to present. CASIO did lend me some as well for an event.

We initially got about 5 Casio LED/Laser projectors but over about 6 months the quality of the image slow deteriorated, we have now been installing the Epson wall mouthed short throw interactive 3LCD projectors, can't rate them enough, fantastic HD image quality, very bright, excellent service from Epson and very very cheap replacement bulbs (around £50 I think from memory) we have about 20+ of them now, we are slowly repalcing the rest of our other 30+ smart boards with them as they break.

I like epsons cheap bulbs on those too, only £74 for genuines i think, cant remember how much compats were.

Just a heads up that Casio are doing £50 cashback on the Core XJ-V10X (3300 lumens) projector until 31st July. Think we'll be buying a few to replace some aging Epsons.

That's been a life saver for us! Some of the old projectors we replaced had the lens on the opposite side to the Epson's we replaced them with and Smart Corners meant we didn't have to move any ceiling brackets or whiteboards!

Question for you Casio people - how is the colour brightness these days?

I ask because we have a few Casio XJ-M140 and random Epsons (EB-X range) and the Epsons look so much brighter and colourful than the Casios - have Casio improved their colours with new models?

Then again, if they have, I'm guessing Epson have further increased their brightness.
