vyperz Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 So here was me thinking that 9.3 was released this morning so I would be able to sign up for Apple School and see what all the fuss is about... goto https://school.apple.com/#enrollment , country defaults to United Kingdom, goto type the institution name - but can't.... won't allow it... choose a country from the drop down ( which incidentally only offers the USA ) and it allows the institution name to be entered.... it then fails. Guess this is only available in the USA at the moment? Why goto all the fuss of telling how great it is for schools only for it not to work ?
Jawloms Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I've just gone to school.apple.com to see if it's any use, logged in and I just have their whirly thing whirling round in circles. Good stuff this innit?!
vyperz Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Yeah i tried to log in with an existing account and got exactly the same.. whirled for about 20 mins before i binned it!
Sibrows Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I was under the impression that the school features were due to be rolled out in the US in 'the fall' with the rest of the world following in 2017. But as is the way three months on I can't find a source for that or if I dreamt it
sparkeh Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Told me that it couldn't use my apple ID couldn't be used with the service. Then whirred :S
vyperz Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Why make all the fuss about it if it isn't available until 2017!!
RLR Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Getting the same symptons. I'm pretty sure this will be available this year some time.
Edu-IT Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Dear Educator, In January we introduced a preview of new features for our education customers. These features work together to make it even easier to get iPad into the hands of students and teachers. We’re continuing to expand our preview to more customers and are excited to confirm the Classroom app is now available for download from the App Store. In April, we plan to expand the preview of Apple School Manager to everyone so that you can test Managed Apple IDs and Shared iPad. And if you have an existing VPP or DEP account, you will be able to access your devices and content using Apple School Manager. Because these new features integrate with your existing infrastructure, you’ll want to make sure it is ready to support the new features in iOS 9.3. We recommend that you review this article to understand the system requirements for these education features and how to get your school ready. We're excited about these new features and can’t wait for you to start using them in your school. Apple Education Team
Brimstone Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Until it's out of beta I just wouldn't bother, why would you want to start using something that's not even finished yet?
Mr_Jiminy Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Until it's out of beta I just wouldn't bother, why would you want to start using something that's not even finished yet? We do it with Microsoft products all of the time
Brimstone Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 We do it with Microsoft products all of the time Yeah I can imagine it's easy to do this in VM but running a beta program with lots of devices across your infastructure, I think not
Jamman960 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 According to this article: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT206177 shared iPads require iPad Air 2/mini 4/pro... Fantastic that's all of our devices out including the 15 airs we just ordered... Can still use the classroom app which should still solve a few issues I guess
rama1712 Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Well that counts us out on all 60+ ipads on shared ipad
biz Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 According to this article: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT206177 shared iPads require iPad Air 2/mini 4/pro... Fantastic that's all of our devices out including the 15 airs we just ordered... Can still use the classroom app which should still solve a few issues I guess iPad Pro/Air 2/mini 4 with at least 32 GB of storage no less, so that's 0% of our iOS devices!
rpain Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Does anyone know of any good instructions for setting up the Classroom app? (including which mdms will work) I look at Apple's site and it's all one big confusing mess. Basically we have 17 iPad air 2s (16gb unfortunately) which are shared. I just want the ability to remote control/view/lock them but can't find a good explanation of how to do it. We break up today so maybe I should just wait until after the holiday but if anyone knows anything in the meantime I'd be really interested. - and there I was thinking all my dreams would come true when 9.3 came out...

The MDMs are connected using a two factor certificate auth between your MDM and Apple themselves, it requires setting up and as I can see so far there are no updates for Profile Manager to allow this yet, remember its still not available in the UK. For the Classroom app to work you require Apple School Manager but we can't sign up because, again not USA.
rich_tech Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I had the apple email a while back and felt the requirements were comical on the iPad spec, can understand it's a new product, but again its unsuitable for large majorities
Joanne Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I do like the concept... but I won't be rolling it out. Can't afford the hardware Also I did exactly the same this morning... could not register in the UK trapple.
Brimstone Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 All these new tools apart from the Classroom App are still in beta everywhere, they will remain in beta until Apple have tested them to death with their 'test schools" in Cupertino. Some of us were given a short private preview from someone in software development at Cupertino before BETT started in Jan and during the keynote his words were that these new tools will not be live until around Sept/Aug. Just wait and see.....
dloudon96 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Hi, I got that e-mail above, I phoned Apple to ask them about the 'classroom' app, they said that it is Google that have released it and not Apple, yet the link in the e-mail is from Apple saying 'we're please to release the new classroom app'. Anyone know how to get it working and where I can find my customer number? Thanks, Dan

Apple have just released theirs with IOS 9.3 but it requires an MDM setup and configuration profile. I don't think any MDM's currently have an official release yet to support this classroom app yet. There are some in beta stages. Casper is due to release theirs on the 31st of March.
