If Meraki can't get a GPS location it'll fall back to IP. You can add a location override for known IP ranges, so if a device IP is in the range then its location is set to coordinates or a post code.

I dunno, have you ever tried Intune integrated with SCCM? It's a bit of a mess. That said I love my 950, even if it's not as colourful as the 930. I'm a big fan of the tile interface, because frankly who needs 15 different home screens on a mobile phone? I'm not looking forward to the day I have to jump on team iOS or Android. Here's hoping Microsoft pock it up again at some point.

Just finished reading Dan Brown's Inferno... There was a point where I thought the World Health Organisation was behind it all, which would have made it a "WHOdunnit"

Paxton Net2 Pro - any known annoyances/design issues from an IT POV?
biz replied to pete's topic in Physical Security
Net2 seems to have stopped reading cards on our Win 7 PC since the latest Windows Updates, meaning we can't make changes. It's also on a Win 10 box which has been fine. Just curious to see if anyone else has seen this? -
[ipad] Testing new MDM - can I test VPP device assignment?
biz replied to sidewinder's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I suspect the Lightspeed rep was talking about adding MDM servers in Apple School Manager. You can add multiple MDMs to ASM which will generate a new token for each MDM you add. IIRC you can assign DEP devices across to the new MDM and back again. The only thing that can't be undone is if you disown a device. I've had more than one Meraki account linked to the same ASM and VPP apps were available to device assign on either. I can't see why that wouldn't work across different MDMs. -
Oh fantastic, so new devices will be unsupervised for now then
-
I use the one we created back in the day during VPP sign up (generic, along the lines of [email protected]). We also used it for DEP and since we updated to Apple School Manager, so it's now our Apple School Manager Administrator.
-
That's good going. We usually get the line: the kids don't know their surnames, let alone how to spell them.
-
Hmm I've tried the same and I have been able to create an EMM network, but what I can't do is enrol DEP devices in it. I've assigned the device to the MDM server in School Manager as normal, assigned DEP settings to the device in Meraki, erased and re-activated the device and... the configuration profile won't install on the device. After starting the 30-day trial normal service had been resumed! So my devices can be enrolled, but not DEP supervised, which we rely on.

We've used individual logins since Ofsted called shared usernames (for all but the youngest children) an 'indicator of inadequate practice' in September 2013

Sorry all! I've changed the title.

Systems Manager 30-Day Trials So that's that then.

A managed PoE switch has the advantage that you can disable/re-enable PoE on an interface if you need to forcibly power cycle an AP.

[ipad] Apple Schools Manager - Apple Classroom - SIMS - Meraki
biz replied to jcraig's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
The free version of Meraki can assign apps directly to devices (rather than the Apple IDs) and hide/restrict apps. Meraki has beta support for ASM, but as Apple still call it a preview that's about the best any MDM can offer. -
On the DEP page in Meraki did you apply your settings to all devices, or just the first page? I've missed a load before, because it defaults to 15 or 30 per page. Correct. I have used Configurator in the past, but now with DEP I don't worry. Most of the iOS activation pages can be skipped and hidden, so setting them up is just tapping in the wireless key and turning on location services (I believe the default is 'off' if you skip it, which will stop Meraki from getting the devices' locations). Also correct. You need to upload your VPP Token to Meraki on the Organisation > MDM page and then will be able to see your synced licenses on the Systems Manager > MDM > VPP page. Yes you can, the role is called Content Manger. They will only see the VPP store when they log in to ASM and not the People or Devices sections. Synced licenses appear in Systems Manager > MDM > VPP page, you will then have to manually add the app again to the Systems Manager > Apps page and assign the apps to a tag. You can create a new tag if you wish to assign the apps to a sub-set of a larger tag, it all becomes very Venn-diagram-y! My number one feature-wish for Meraki is that the apps page would sync with the VPP licenses, but as yet it does not. It is asking you for an actual Apple ID, as Apple like their devices to be signed in at all times, but you can ignore it. You'll be asked to sign in when you try and assign an app that isn't VPP licensed (so the iPad can go to the App Store and download it itself) and sometime even when you have! I've found the biggest culprit for this is actually Meraki's own app, so I've stopped assigning it now! Hope that helps
-
Correct, you can use either AC2 or DEP to supervise the devices.
-
Our pupil iPads don't have Apple IDs signed in. With supervision, Meraki and VPP apps are assigned to the device, rather than to an Apple ID which was the only option previously.
-
That will work, but you will have to supervise the iPads in order to set the wallpaper/lock screen.
-
Afaik if you didn't allow pairing when you first supervised the devices you will have to wipe them and set them up again with pairing allowed. Sorry!

[ipad] Apple Configurator 2 - Some Apps install, others don't.

Is it different apps every time? Do you use caching server? -
If you don't want to install iTunes you can just install two of its prerequisite components - Mobile Device Support and Application Support.

Has anyone had any luck hiding the new HomeKit? I was thinking it might be something along the lines of com.apple.home or com.apple.homekit -
My Mum had a three piece G (plan) Suite - very comfortable it was too.

@Mr.Ben might know?
