Here's a long going debate between my other half..

You have a huge burger in a restaurant:

Do you use both hands, pick it up and chomp into it, opening your mouth as wide as you can to fit it in - potentially ending up with more all over you and your face?

Do you like me spend more time using a knife and fork, making sure you reduce spillage to a minimum and looking polite without the need to go and wash your hands afterwards?

It depends...

... on the restaurant, others present, the size of the burger and the likelihood of the bun contents collapsing/leaking

In the interests of not wearing my meal, I am more likely to reach for cutlery these days

Good choice haha

I usually just go for it with hands but my choice of burgers have a low chance of spillage. If we're in a more classy restaurant then I'd probably use cutlery but I'm also more likely to order something else if it's that fancy because I'm likely to forget where we are and just use hands anyway.

Always my hands, even if I were in a posh place (does Restaurant Gordon Ramsay do burgers? doubt it)

Eat with the hands, slice in half if needed with cutlery to get going, given that most burgers in restaurants seem to take it as a challenge to see how much can be stacked in this glorious time :)

The other thing that influences the decision process is the size of your hands. If you're a strapping 6' 4" chances are you have bigger hands that someone a more modest 5'8" which means you have a better chance of holding the burger together

For me typically I will pick up the burger with both hands and get to work. I don't recall the last time I used knife and fork on an occasion like this. That doesn't mean that I never would, though.

Suggestion: Attach a poll to this thread?

Sound good. What's the best way of going about getting one together haha

I just posted this in another thread but I think it belongs here too:

There's a big burger waiting to be eaten somewhere...

I'd turn left given the main road veers to the right. Unless it's a roundabout - I'd reckon the cafe is on the side road to the left.

If it is a roundabout, I reckon behind the camera.

It all depends on the bap used. If it a strong sturdy bap that can take a bit of sauce, go in all hands blazing. If however it is a feeble fally-apart bap that's likely to end up all over you're lap, then go with the cutlery.

Every burger scenario is different you need to take each one on merit.

Hands. Always. I'm a man and men always eat burgers with their hands. :p

Funny thing, my wife was always the same until we had a child, then she suddenly started eating burgers with a knife and fork. Apparently its a more mumsy thing to do :)

Hands, always hands. Even if I end up looking like this:

Hands all the way, if it is a big burger take it head on and deal with any fallout later. There is no time to waste especially if there is cheese involved, nothing spoils a burger more than clod cheese.

A bit of both for me. I generally start with hands, even removing some components before hand. I'm not a snake and can't unhinge my lower jaw!

I then use my hands until such time the burger begins to lose structural integrity then it's knife and fork time.

Assuming we're talking about a large burger in a restaurant or one of those gourmet gaffs, then I'd cut it up to make it more manageable, and then use my hands.
