Got the dreaded letter from Three!

So, I finally got the dreaded letter from Three that they are going to move me from "The One Plan" to their new top "All You Can Eat" tier at £30/Month. But for loyalty, they will give me a HUGE discount of £3/Month! The price hike is definitely gonna hurt as I had managed to get them to discount my current tariff down to £10/Month due to issues with coverage at home and work. But luckily, I managed to get them to give me a Home Signal Box which has worked wonders.

 

I did make use of a lot of data and tethering, so I would like to stay unlimited, but there aren't that many options left now with other networks. Phone calls, I would need maybe around 600 to 1000 mins. Anyone know of any options?

What's this home signal box? I get chuff all signal in my house!

It's a femtocell. It's a box which connects to your home broadband and routes your phonecalls over that. It's like a hardware version of the Three InTouch app. It's used in low signal areas to provide a mobile signal to registered phones. Three will give you a box if you need it, others charge you for them which is a bit bloody cheeky. "Oh hai, we don't provide a signal in your area so we'll let you pay for us to use your broadband connection which you pay for to prop up our infrastructure. Aren't we great?"

 

I'm getting one from Three as well because I get no signal from them, my phone is too old for Wifi calling and the Three inTouch app is crap. Hopefully it'll be delivered today.

Do you just ring customer services and ask for one?

 

Did you have to jump through any hoops or prove you have poor signal?

I moved house before Christmas and not liking using the Three inTouch app, if only for the fact it doesn't use the same tone for txts and ones you get using the app don't appear in your usual msg app.

They offered me one a little while a go but I actually wanted to cancel my contract so I didn't accept it in the end.

Yeah that annoyed me about the ThreeinTouch app, it also did something weird it would stop calls and texts getting to me when I wasn't on wifi and was using normal signal. I didn't have a clue about it doing that until I was told by a friend they could never get hold of me, we then side by side me with full bars of signal he called me to test and low and behold it went straight to answer phone. I removed the three in touch app and my phone worked as normal again!!!

Just got that app. Will test it later. Lot's of complaints it seems, that it doesn't work...

I've managed to get a new contract with Three after comparing them to ID Mobile. I was offered Ultd Calls and Texts and 8GB of data for £18. It was advertised for £26 on their website, this is fine for me as I still wanted a 30day contract.

I got 600 mins plus ayce data for £17 a month. I quoted the half price Vodafone offer and when they tried to tell me I only used a couple hundred minutes I told them I wanted peace of mind. Then they tried a fixed data plan and I pointed out that I'd used 15gb half way through the month. This resulted in an acceptable offer (on a rolling contract so I can jump if I want to)

Nice one. I kept on asking for my PAC number, they really did not want me to leave. In the end they offered me 200 mins, ayce text and data (although tethering was a max of 12GB a month now) for £15 a month on one month rolling.

they wouldnt even accept i already have a new sim card when i left three (diddnt care about keeping the old number too many people had it) went round and round in circles saying just let me end the contract (was a 2 year contract that included a phone but well after the 2 year term) there is nothing you can do to keep me for what felt like days

Have to say I'm very happy with Three, the free overseas calls and data is the killer feature for me.

I ....ing hate femtocells . I spent 4 weeks ....ing arround to get a VodaMoan suresignal to connect. then found the ...er only supported 3G and the ......ing phones were not .....ing 3 ..ing G!

If the CELL had not been such a crap device I would only have spent 2-3 hrs before discovering it was useless. On A corporate Lan it was a PITA. No interface, No Feedback, no log, No Idea what It was trying to do, No Guide for firewalls, no support from Voda.

I was this way inclinded as well, it was a real effort to get the PAC number as they insisted they could do better, but finally at the very last moment before hopefully giving me my PAC number they said, ok, we could do it for £15 one month rolling. I thought that was pretty darn good, especially with using data in the At Home countries, so I changed my mind and sayed with them. I did order a PAYG Giffgaff sim before hand, but at the moment it just sitting at home with no credit on.

I'm on Three and have a very poor signal at home so have been using the inTouch App and whilst it does work, it can be quite flaky and occasionally it will say it needs to register despite me already having done this on a number of occasions!

 

Having said all that, I'm on a rolling 1 month SIM only deal which has unlimited data, 3000 texts and 200 minutes of calls and costs £13 a month. Being able to use my allowance abroad is really useful - I did this in the US last year and Three text me on my return to say that the amount of data I used would have cost over £800!

EE are offering a 12 month sim only, unlimited mins/texts and 16 Gb data (with tethering) for £19.99 for new customers. Saw it on HUKD
