MkII Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Oh I disallowed students student too. Only email to staff allowed Interesting. That would work I think. I'll suggest it.
robjduk Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I Suppose patience is the key with this one I think, although use of Office 365 (or lack of it) is just part of a wider frustration I have with use of ICT through out my school. 80%+ staff just use ICT in school to the minimum and this annoys me. As mentioned above if SLT dont push it then it rarely gets of the ground but if they do its the complete opposite. But that`s the case with a lot of things in schools i suppose!? are we from the same school? Exactly my problem...
sniffingmoose Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 LinktoICT are closing our email (Zimbra) from April 1st and imposing BGFL Office 365 instead. I am with academic staff on this one, neither I nor the staff want it. We just want a simple school email system for the 60 accounts we have. We have already purchased office and do not need another Microsoft Office system and the stress of the migration. We are told that each user has to migrate their own address book and calendars ourselves to the new system! Not sure what will happen to our existing emails after the migration, I have yet to find an answer. Anyone recommend a school a school email provider.
Boredguy Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Migrating the e-mails is normally easy enough, and I would imagine LinktoICT will do that. Address books and calendars need to be done by the users (if they use them) as they can not automatically transferred via the 365 migration tool. There is nothing wrong with Office365, and just because it has Word etc available does not mean you have to assign the licences to users to that function. You can happily just assign users the Exchange component and have an up to date e-mail system that works for free.
sniffingmoose Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Thanks for the info. Trouble is users do not want to transfer these themselves, its another hassle in a busy day from their point of view. I think I may have to login to all 60 accounts and do it for them!
dblight Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 We have 2 tenants currently operating. 1 is used at one of our all through schools and they only use exchange and a little share point. The other tenant is setup for our other secondary but is only used by the IT team for Skype for Business currently. Long term this will change to migrate on premise exchange to O365 and for allowing students and staff to have Office. We toyed with the idea of share point and the other features but found Google Apps to be better suited to what the teachers wanted. So we will run both side by side
Davit2005 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 We deployed Office365 for students here at our college a few years back, staff we still have on our on premise Exchange and have no view to change that. Students do use it but I reckon only about 20% at most with the other using mostly gMail. Staff will be using our SharePoint OneDrive but they also have access to XenApp & XenDesktop from outside college. I do think MS are missing the oppurtunity to intergrate OneDrive with Windows 10 better without 3rd party tools, scripts etc.
Oaktech Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 They use it as a way to get free Office at home and for mail. That's it. A couple of people use one drive, and couple of people use skype.
maxrebo Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Does anyone know an easy way of checking on usage of services? Such as how many have installed the Proplus option and also usage of Onedrive? I Know you can check this on an individual basis but thats rather time consuming! Cheers
CAWJames Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 There a few new reports in the Sneak preview of the admin centre, and one shows activation of ProPlus, broken down by Apple/PC etc, if that helps?

CAWJames Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Go to Reports, then it should have a link to try the sneak preview of the new admin centre. Then click the graph icon on the left and Activations should be on the screen. Try that

knightrider Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 @Liam Got any examples of schools which have done this? I am considering it and would love to chat to them about the process.
Liam Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 @knightrider sorry I missed this . What is it you are requiring sorry?
knightrider Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I was just wondering if you could tell me which schools had/were looking at moving home directory's to onedrive
Liam Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I would say avoid it! It's hard enough as an additional storage space.
jonnykewell1 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Do you have any weekly or daily newsletters which go out to staff that are usually in paper form in pigeon holes? You could start by moving something like this onto one drive so it is shared out each week/day . If important information is on those documents then staff may need to refer back to those sheets for dates etc which would mean them going onto the one drive on their account and starting to use it a little more. The ones who struggle will then hopefully come to you and be shown how to use it. 1
maxrebo Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 I agree, the only way for people to use it is by forcing them to use it. I`m getting there slowly, another training session last week which a number of staff were shown it use.

I`m getting there slowly, another training session last week which a number of staff were shown it use. Same here, we slowly decreasing the amount they are allowed to store on their local area over time to force them to use their OneDrive and so far seems to be working from September. Over the summer we moved their Department shared drives to Sharepoint and forced them to use it which actually was taken "ok" without a lot of moaning as they liked it when we said "you can access at home and from the iPad now" I have started IT department sessions for the different departments where we go to them and do a department at a time which they seem to like and easier for us to manage them all Edited February 29, 2016 by MrFrostmaul
maxrebo Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 Sounds good, is there a way round the 10gb limit though on team site?
