[ipad] Easy way to transfer photos and videos from iPad

There are many modules in the primary computing curriculum that require the kids to take photos and videos on the iPads. We have a trolley of 30 iPads, is there an easy method for the teachers to transfer photos and videos from the iPad without the need for lightning cables?

We are looking at this as well as teachers are having to airdrop from the trolley iPads to their own then upload onedrive.

We use foldr.

 

 

Login to the app with domain credentials, choose which files you want, send 'em to the network [either a shared drive or your user area].

I'll take a look at Foldr, but how would I go about setting up WebDav for the iPads?

I have all the ipads in the charage and sync trolley and plug my macbook in. All the ipads then appear in iphoto. I import and copy to the server. Probably a bit more long winded, but free if your trolley has a usb cable for a macbook to plug in.

We've set up a school drop-box account that automatically "backs up" the camera reel to a network share. Free (at least for the first 10gb), easy to set up, and all happens without the teacher having to (or having to ask me how to) do anything on the ipad.

Installing and Configuring WebDAV on IIS 7 and Later : The Official Microsoft IIS Site - Guide on setting up WebDav within IIS (I'd recommend using your web server or a machine with IIS installed). Personally I used a folder in a shared drive (such as a Media share). I have noticed that if your wifi is iffy, video will take a long time to upload and will fail. Can upload photos within seconds.

 

As for the iPads, I deploy My WebDav - free too https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/my-webdav/id514325817?mt=8

 

If you create a DNS entry for something along the lines of http://Media and point it to your server where WebDav is installed, you can inform your staff/ pupils to enter configuration within the app to http://media opposed to giving out the IP.

Wow, doesn't seem to get much simpler than that! Despite the name it works for both videos and photos.

Our schools use PhotoSync. Syncs to selected folder on their PC.

yup you can even just dump the entire dcim directory into a zip file on your pc not bad for a free app

We have just bought into Foldr having trialled it, our staff love it! Tried HAP+ but it isn't too friendly with iPads!

+1 for Foldr! Use it here, for us it made the iPads worth having in the school! Had a look at the new version at BETT this year, can't wait for the release at Easter!

Not free no, but worth having! We are the same, not currently using iPads in a 1:1 environment. And yes freeyourfiles.co.uk

I think we paid £2k in first year and a grand year after. Not just useful for iPads, allows our students to access work / shared drives outside the school etc...

The new version is going to have reverse password changing and calendar (homework) support. :-)

Sorry I meant that it will allow people to change their AD password remotely.

We wouldn't use it to anywhere near its potential here. 2K = too much.

That's fair, I suppose it is quite expensive.

The other thing we were looking at when finding an iPad solution, was Aircatch but from what I remember it's a one way thing, only able to get things from the iPad, not to the iPad. Made by a company called BITS? :/
