If you have oyster/ touch card don't queue for the first machine to touch out of the DLR; you'll pass another 4 on your way out of the station 4. Stay on the DLR to Prince Regent; it's less busy at that end 5. Don't queue at the first coffee shop or toilets as you enter Excel; there are plenty more of both further up the concourse! 2

Tap contactless card on Oyster reader and away you go. Be careful to use the same card all day as you still work towards a price cap (even though it's not Oyster). ETA: make sure you tap in and out. There aren't barriers at Custom House so you need to make sure you tap your card on the reader on the way out- otherwise you will incur a penalty fare! Edited January 20, 2016 by dry

elsiegee40 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 An oyster card reader is a post with a yellow circle contact pad on top of it. There is no gate or barrier on the DLR, just the reader, which is why those with paper tickets can just walk through.

If you look on the TfL website, I think you can create an account and register your card in advance with it and then track the journeys paid for through that. (I might be wrong though) 1

I see in a lot of the photos people are wearing suits. Is that the norm? I will be going representing the school I work for but that's only for one of the three days.

If you are down for 3 days I would suggest that you spend some time looking at who is exhibiting, if there are any educational sessions that could be of benefit and also what the school expects as a return for you attending. Attire is generally smart work wear. For some it is suited and booted, for other IT is branded polo shirts and trousers.

As you're going as an apprentice it doesn't really matter. You will see everything from jeans and t shirt through to suits like Grumbledook said. Be comfortable, but not too scruffy The most important thing is comfortable footwear that you can walk miles in (Excel London is huge).
rad Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I go in Jeans and a Hoodie, take a Rucksack for your Hoodie and all the stuff that gets thrown at you. Your ID badge gets scanned as a marketing tool to be able to send you literature after you have attended BETT.

I buy fresh comfy insoles every year. There's little more uncomfortable than pacing that floor eight hours a day without any padding for your poor feet!

john Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 And now Serco can track your every move [emoji33] The DLR is no longer run by Serco its Keolis Amey now (so its run by the French) - Docklands Light Railway awarded to Keolis in blow to Serco - Telegraph and has been for some time... and ever since then we've had strikes on it... hmmm how French!

All the stand staff from all companies are totally cream crackered by that point and it's like a scene from a zombie movie. If you are visiting on Saturday, it's worth turning up a little early to witness this 2

The more hardcore amongst us, don't bother with the sunglasses and bare our bleary, red rimmed eyes for all to see! Thats what we say, though in practice is more likely because we've forgotten to bring a pair of sunnies with us! 2
