Have you updated to OS X Capitan?

Hi all,

 

Just wanted to ask whether you have updated your Macbooks, iMacs etc to OS X Capitan or if you are holding off to let it age and stabilise slightly before doing so?

 

We have upgraded one room with a trolley of laptops to OS X Capitan and had 0 issues reported so far.

My iMacs are Core2Duos and its just not worth it,

All of our Macs (Core 2 Duo, Sandybridge and some latest model Mac Minis) can run it happily - but it took so long for Yosemite to become actually useable, and it takes third party software providers so long to actually support the OS, that we will now be holding off until the next release (so we'll run one release behind).

In my last job, El Capitan came about two months too late to be rolled into the current image. I have no doubt it'll be in the next academic year's but again, the next version will be out about two months later.

 

If history is anything to go by, it's probably worth waiting until 10.x.2 before you put it on anything important anyway.

Over half term we got rid of almost all of our macs and went back to being windows only. Only two of us techs have macs anymore and the head of it wants them gone and won't authorise the parallels update I need to keep the windows bit running properly after the update.

No, we are just moving from OS X Mavericks to OS X Yosemite. We stay 1 year behind on what should be the most stable release (normally .5).

 

I was tempted with El Capitan to skip Yosemite as i thought it was very good for a .0 release, but then found Microsoft Office 2016 does not play nice with it.

Oops voted yes for my personal machine. Haven't upgraded from Mavericks yet because of the whole malarky with them no longer being able to use Workgroup Manager, plus Mac stuff scares me it was only the other day the thing decided for some strange reason (error code ge561) that it broke it's own directory and had to re-create one from a backup... not even Apple could tell me why *sighs* I'll make the jump to El Capitan or whatever the next one is when we make the jump to Windows 10.

Yes and no. Personally yes (more for testing and building images for next year) but everyone else here at the College will run the latest versions of OS X 10.10 Yosemite until the school year is over. Best rule of thumb for education is to stay one year behind

Yes.

Went over to Yosemite in the summer but could never solve all the issues with mail.app. El-Capitan seems to work perfectly (famous last words...)

We're looking to go El Capitan, Office 2016 for Mac and move from WGM to Profile Manager all at the same time.

 

Might try to aim for Christmas.

Found word, excel PowerPoint and one note crashed like mad on el captain, outlook crashed and would not load again without rebooting the OS, macrumors at the time had many users saying the same thing and then a article said Microsoft and apple were working together to try and resolve crashing issues of office 2016 and el captain, not sure if they have been fully resolved yet.

Latest El Capitan update which was quite recently but that resolved a lot of Office 2016 issues. -Unsure if ALL of them are cleared up, we haven't upgraded to 2016 yet.
