It's called a rolling release. You should try running Arch Linux on a machine, you wont make it through a 24hr period without something needing an update. :)

*grumble grumble*

had a productive day today, managed to get item storage going, found a portal gun in the twilight and going to start on power production tonight

@Shielder

Yes a basic capacitor will connect directly to a lightning rod, then connect energy conduits from the capacitor. Although I need to upgrade, I'm still using leadstone they are only capable of 200 RF/t.

Well, my smeltery will be huge once I get round to placing all the blocks I now have.

If anyone is requiring Seared Stone/Bricks for anything, let me know. I have around 20 stacks of the bricks currently and they're being mass produced.

Wat. you've been on the server like, 2 days, and already surpassed me. D: Really need to kick my butt into gear and start getting some resources.

Got a few beehives setup (beware, I have ender bees next to the dragon egg in the end and in the nether in the tunnel connecting my portal with localzuk's). I've started to do a little infusion work with Thaumcraft 4 (with only a little purple goo accident or five). So I now have a silverwood wand with thaumium caps. I've also researched all the thaumic energistics stuff I need to et rid of all my jars and supply essentia to my infusion alter via an AE2 network. I just need to build some Essentia Storage drives and some essentia import buses.

Yeah, I had to change my setup in the end to be much like yours as I found the rod had worked but none of the energy flowed to the immersive engineering HV cable and HV capacitor I had connected to it. Once I placed the other type of capacitor, it all started to work as expected.

Honestly I don't have that many resources otherwise I'd be much further ahead. I've just got very limited refining powers. Mainly focusing on making a huge tinkers setup (albeit very messy right now since my "house" isn't big enough to house anything.

Admittedly the main barrier to getting a smelter up and running is finding clay, I believe. I could probably build one, but for now I think it's more economical to get a macerator up and running first to double most of my ore count.

I died twice and lost what little items I had, so you're not the worst on the server!

If you need to get a smeltery, I have more than enough spare bricks that you can get a full smeltery setup without even touching my stone supply :p

I may have to, since spawn area has been drained of resources.. But I do hate pilfering stuff off others, even when offered. I like working for it myself, but sometimes that just takes too long/needs to to go too far out/etc.

You don't need clay, gravel, or sand to make Seared Bricks. You just need a Tinkers Smeltery and Cobblestone. Melting the cobble gives you seared stone, seared stone + ingot mould = Seared Brick.

Works out much nicer, and super easy to automate.

Plus saves all your gravel, sand and clay for more important tasks.

Oh? Last I remember it was some weird mix of sand and clay?

It does, if you don't have a smeltery. You can only melt down the cobble into seared stone if you already have a working tinkers smeltery. But it means that people like myself, can help people like yourself. ;)

Sand is used for Glass (which is used in a fair amount of Thermal Expansion), Clay is used in bricks (and a few various mod items) which is a decorative block (and can be used quite nicely), and Gravel is excellent for paving solutions that look good and cheap, especially if you compress it a little.
