Loose criteria: - 2+ players - some need to be 2 player so me and the Mrs can play, but I'd like some that if we have some friends over they can play too! - Relatively easy to grasp - I've played a few games with some friends, but I wouldn't put us down as experienced players! - Needs to fit on our (reasonably) large coffee table! Ones that I'm considering at the mo are: Ticket to Ride (Europe), Carcassone and Rummicub! Ta all! J

Power Grid is also pretty good but not co-op, it might be possible to play with just 2 people as well, it's one of those games that's really easy to pick up but can get more complex once you start understanding the rules fully and analyzing the various moves you and the other players can take.

My only problem with Munchkin is that everyone has to get into the spirit of the game and make sure any grudges or upset feelings don't spill over outside of it. Fair play to hold grudges between games but if someone stops you winning (and they will) then just get them back in this game or another one and move on. I've seen some unhappy people who still haven't learned not to play Munchkin because they always get upset.

Simple to set up and simple to learn, it is our most played game. also +1 for Ticket to Ride Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. edmokeski Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Ticket to Ride is excellent, although can be played in absolute silence, so less fun on the social end than some other games with wheeling-dealing elements. I'd also recommend Settlers of Catan, Stone Age, 7 Wonders, and Dominion. I know Stone Age and Dominion can be done 2-4 player, but all of them are better with more. I think Settlers and 7 Wonders both need 3 (-6 (with extension) for the former, -7 for the latter, I believe). Dominion and Settlers also have lots of extensions. Made by Will Weaton and a nice easy watch that covers all sorts of games, play them with geeky people he knows (often famous) and also have a bit of banter. Learned of a few great games on there and you get see them being played so get a feel of them and how they may work with friends. I picked up Tsuro from it, which is really nice. Visually lovely, easy to play and fun in a group. Ohh and Carcassone is a good one. Edited October 8, 2015 by TechMonkey

Ignoring the grinning fools that are my gaming buddies, this is my current haul, minus Exploding Kittens which lives on my desk in work: Anything interesting to any of you, ask and I'll try to explain it As for some good Two Player things: King of Tokyo / New York is a fun one, 2-8 players, you're a monster attempting to take over a city, while fighting other monsters. All done through dice rolls and collecting power up cards for new abilities. Does work better with more than 2 players though. I always suggest Love Letter, it's a quick game, playable in about 15/20 minutes from start to finish, but it centers around playing cards and either forcing your opponent to discard the Princess, or being the last player standing with the highest card value. Probably say Boss Monster for the third, my favourite of the lot, you build dungeons with monsters and trap rooms and force heroes to come through, gaining points for defeating them, while playing against your opponents who are trying to lure in the same heroes with tasty treasures. I'll second the recommendation for boardgamegeek.com , I use it to check out prospective new buys when I'm lurking around the shops.
Duranis Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Not a 2 player game and not technically a board game but I would recommend Cards Against Humanity as a good group/party game, I have never played another game that made me laugh as hard as that does. Scrabble Trickster is actually a pretty good game as well, even if you are not normally a scrabble fan. Evens the playing field a bit as well if you have some people that aren't normally good at scrabble as its not just about getting the longest words but also using your trick cards strategically (like when my Mrs was super happy to get a 90 odd point word and I used a trick card to steal her score ).
