Our system is entirely IPv4! There's not even a mention of IPv6 anywhere in the Server Configuration Utility?

All ours run on IPv4 2. All Net 2 Plus units used to run on our flat network, and I migrated them one at a time over to a separate VLAN - there was no issues with having them on different subnets, and the Default Gateway of the Net2 server was a switch with both VLANs on!

That the door entry components (not the server) operate over IPV6 see here: http://www.paxton.co.uk/docs/Instructions/Ins-30201.pdf Did you configure IPV4 on these ? or is it just using IPV6 behind the scenes? They also told us that Paxton were "unresponsive and awkward" about running it on anything other than a single VLAN. Which sounds ridiculous, and it may well work over vlans but pazton don't support it. You don't need to implement ipv6 for this, all you need is to make sure the switch can use it.

That's a specific device - door entry, rather than just the RFID access stuff. Pretty new product - one I've not actually seen before in fact. None of our door readers are those.

It applies specifically to the panels and monitors for video intercom systems. they said: 1) it runs over IPV6 it does NOT support IPV4 2) all the panels and monitors must be on the same vlan. So it is likely it is just the intercom parts for opening gates on newer systems.

There is a procedure for inter subnet working that's covered on the installers course. Or at least it was when I did it.

They told me that they wouldn't budge on either point. 1) that the system needs to run on IPV6 2) that it needs to run on a single subnet. If they cannot/will not move on those points then I can see this as being "unresponsive or awkward"; which is what I was referring to. To be fair the engineer that I spoke to eluded to the fact that point 2 could be resolved " if the network was setup correctly" (I ad-lib) ; but reverted to "non-supported" when I pressed it. To be fair I do think that paxton is one of the best products around, and this is referring to a particular subset of their products.

I don't think they did a particularly good job with product design here.

neilault Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 We use Paxton Net2 here, alll be it with Biometric door readers instead. Very impressed with the software and it's pretty easy to setup.
gaz350b Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Paxton net2, we have both our cashless system integrated into it for syncing cards/users and a custom piece of software that monitors our turnstiles and marks student AM roll call. Works really well. We have server on 1 vlan and doors on 2 other vlans across our 2 sites. The reason why Paxton don't support vlans is you need to be on the vlan to setup the door controller. we use a popular security company to purchase and install. I then configure the door with my laptop(with the net2 configure tool installed) as engineers lack the networking knowledge to complete. Oh also make sure you get the correct type of rfid system I think there are Paxton and mifare card readers(I think). Mifare are obviously going to be compatible with other systems. We sometimes get the wrong readers installed!! Edited September 29, 2015 by gaz350b
