MkII Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Anyone recommend a good installer or tell me where I can get the bits to install ceiling mount data projectors? I tried a couple of years back and hit a complete blank trying to get hold of the breakout boxes - 15 pin VGA, plus audio and video phono sockets and mini stereo jack socket.

Most companies only charge about £200 for an installation so it's worth getting a "professional" in for piece of mind. I know I certainly wouldnt want to be responsible for bolting something to the ceiling near where people sit , although I have put some up in the past in my old job @ Geoff watch yourself in some of those primary schools you work in you maybe walking under some of my handywork

ChrisH Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 It wouldnt suprise me there are plenty of Cowboys out there. They jump from one easy money making scheme to the other. It used to be Cat 5 cabling now it's projectors. I have seen some awful installs from other companies who really didnt have a clue/care about the quality of the workmanship. What makes me laugh most about projectors though is the thieves. Most of them havent figured out you just need to undo the thumb nuts on top of the projector to release the unsecured ones rather than spending 5 minutes trying to twist the mount until the metal gives.

I was crap in Tech lessons so I left them to "attach it" to the ceiling. I can get/show u some prices if ya want to do it manually... ...but I think the others are right, its prob best getting someone in, and these ppl were efficent and did a tidy enough job Better than the ppl that we waited 6 months to hear from after ordering that didnt show. Lucky we didnt pay them with a credit card lol Ivojo (or something) I think they were called. I rang them a few times after waiting a while to arrange times of installation, etc. but for some reason, they never rang back as promised. The funny thing is that they were recomended in a teachers meeting with some teacher/rep from another school/county who recomended them lol Cheers, Nath

Basic install (includes Ceiling mount kit, 10m data cable, temp 240v power supply [ext] and labour is £325 per bundle.) VGA splitter's for 35 quid each [theres a few other options but this'll do ] N.

KeithFermor Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Juest been perusing the thread... I liked the Avrio box plate, cos it has the VGA mounted vertically. I have some well thumbed plates with horizontal mounts that alow the cable weight to eventually break the fixing. Having the locking thread at the top of the fixing gives it more durability. Hint: I have had many laptop based connections with an overlapped display (left hand edge repeats as part of out image). I have releived that by changing the output resolution from 32 bit to 24 or 16 - depending on availability from grafix card. Found that changing display frequency didn't matter a jot!

Hi everyone Make sure you have a substantial fixing to use the top-tec as they add extra weight to the projector. We had a few customers fitting their own cages and calling us when they became loose due to the original fixing only being used for a 3kg projector.

We have used a lot of Top Tec cases for the projectors. They are ver good as far as securing the projector but recently we had a break in and they just swung on the ceiling mounted poles (only fixed with 4 screws or bolts) and snapped the lot of and made off with the complete fixing. Some kids probarbly got one on his bedroom ceiling nand is playing his PS2 all over his wall..............lol
tosca925 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Forgot to mention we have also used alotof their tower security cases which we either fix to the desk or to the floor, as of yet no one as tried to take one. We also tried in our LSU unit the TFT housings as well which seem also very good.
