Hi Guys! Hope everyone has a great xmas and that you weren't too worked down on those last few days of term ("I dont have any dvd software on my laptop!"). To the point: My last three working days of this year were on a course at Neos IT Training in Worcester. Highly recommended! I went on the Server 2003 Network Services (3 days), the trainer Alan Hutt (MCSE) is very very good at delivering the course and as a former MS trainer knows all the tricks! They plough will all the cakes/ coffe / tea that you can handle and at lunch times pay for a slap up meal in a very busy but quaint pub! I had the fish is it was more like a whale! Anyway the course was really good and he covered lots that wasn't in the course but thought was more useful for us. Two of my colleagues went of two different courses the weeks before mine and said the exact same. Check them out! 10/10

As for a practical test with 2003/AD you could get them to set up a couple of shares and get them to configure access to a specified group of people and disabling to others. Simple I know but you may be able to weed out the slackers!

Some pupil logins who are part of the 'Internet Users' group are being prompted for authentication to the isa server on some machines. Any one else experienced this?

I have this notebook at home and am finding the onboard wireless a little tempremental. It had been working fine for a couple of months then started playing up now I get no signal even when I am standing next to the blasted router. If I use a USB wireless (linksys) adapter I can connect to my Router (linksys) no problem, I have trawled the sludge and found a few people are having the same problem, could a windows updated have caused any problems? I have tried the fujitsu website but its a little poor, they dont provide email support, wanting to rake money in from premium phone lines! RW

Not sure what we do here Paul, the IT Manager deals with that stuff for us, being CSE reliant ourselevs - grrrr! - I know it is most frustrating that you can't just get on and fix it(does that invalidate any contract you have with them?), it might be best to speed up the dropping of CSE! What are you problems? Lets see if we can help!

In reference to staff leaving themselves logged in, why not put a screensaver which times out after x minutes (for us 5) and locks the workstation, into the staff gpo? Works for us!

We had a teacher who would constantly demand things to be done, the usual "i want it done..." by such and such a time, thing was when she wanted it done immediately it got done 3 weeks later. She soon learned. Some (not all!) teaching staff believe they are on a different level to us and I think it is good sometimes to bring them back to earth. If a teacher demands something make the b*ggers wait. They'll learn. As for moaning when they can't get hold of you, try doing it to them, ring the departmental phone 20 or so times during 10 minutes when you know they are teaching, see how they like it.

work experience is definately the route to go, we have a year 10 with us all day every monday and we can set him on the jobs that are niggling at us that are low priority but worth while none the less. It has worked effectively and I have experienced going to an organisation and doing a similar sort of thing when I was in sixth form. You can be qualified up to the eyeballs but if you dont have some experience you will never get a look in.

Before any says it, not the stuff you hang on the walls! What you do guys have as your desktop background? often get bored and change it reasonably frequently but sometimes struggle to find a decent background. Also what about the kids/staff desktop do you give them a 'corporate' background. We do in order to highlight if a member of staff leaves a machine whilst still logged on!
