Finished The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.

 

The shortened final season could have done with a bit more room to breathe, but was still great. The finale certainly felt "bigger" than normal for the show. I'd hoped for a happier ending, but the one we got was very moving. A post credits scene does hint at a potential reset button that I hope won't get pressed as it would take away from the ending.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video. Seen the first four episodes, which I've generally enjoyed. The choice of a couple of actors to leave hasn't been too glaring in one instance (the prosthetics help), but the decision to kill off the other off screen rather than recast seems a bit odd. Not as odd as Galadriel's insistence that the rings can be used for good, though.

OK, it isn't Tolkein, or Peter Jackson, but it is OK.

We just finished watching Joan (ITV). Stars Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones). Based on a real life story of Joan Hannington who was a prolific jewel thief.

Some great acting and script and lovely 80's music, big hair and terrible cars... No dragons in it, but loads of annoying adverts for electric cars.

Finished Nightsleeper on iPlayer. A sleeper train from Scotland is "hackjacked" and turned into a missile heading for London. One of those somewhat preposterous shows that you watch on the edge of your seat, desperate to see what happens next. Not sure later revelations made much sense, but it hurtles along fast enough for you not to start thinking about such things until after the end. Not sure how they can get the announced second season given where people were at the end of this one.

 

Started Nobody Wants This on Netflix. Romcom about a podcaster and a Rabbi who start to fall for each other. The first two episodes are amusing, but I'm not sure that it's a series rather than a film.

One is Norfolk Man Cave. First latched onto this because 5Foot2 has links to Norfolk.

KAOS - Jeff Goldblum doing a fantastic job as a modernised version of everyone's favourite childish "can't keep it in their pants" god, Zeus.

Kaos creator Charlie Covell has spoken out in response to Netflix cancelling the popular comedy series this week, just over a month after its release.

 

The streamer's decision not to renew, external the modern-day Greek mythology show, starring Jeff Goldblum as almighty god Zeus, sparked surprise among the show's fans, as it featured in the platform's top 10 charts during its first month.

 

Covell wrote, external on the Instagram page of the show's production company, Sister: "Of course I’m gutted not to be making more Kaos, but I don’t want this news to overshadow what we did make…. I’m extremely proud of our show."

 

The message also thanked fans for their enduring "love and enthusiasm," with Covell confirming that one unspecified online fan theory over the series' cliffhanger ending was "bang on the money."...

I started watching KAOS on a flight and watched about 2 or 3 episodes. I haven't decided if I will watch the rest. I couldn't make up my mind if it was brilliant or just a little insanely over the top. I suspect as it has that sort of edginess, Netflix are playing a safe game - which is a shame as we need variety in film/series production and not a race to tried and tested blandness. Anyone else watch this and what did you think?

Watched the first episode of Citadel: Diana on Prime Video.

 

It's set in 2030, though things don't look too different to today and, so far follows a (probably not actually) Manticore agent who seems to have her own agenda. Citadel seems to be a minor player trying to get back in the game at this stage.

 

Looked very expensive but hollow. I can't help but think that the setup of the first season is going to cause headaches for the "universe" moving forward.

Yes, it's a shame about Kaos. Worth watching the whole series just for Stephen Dillane's furtive, split-second glances to camera whilst Jeff Goldblum is whittering on.

 

I'm glad to see that Ludwig will be getting a second series, though.

Been watching Curfew (the new one. not the Sean Bean one, although the Sean Bean one is well worth the watch if you get the chance). While I find the social commentary stuff rather eye rolling at times, the murder mystery/procedural cop drama is surprisingly well done.

Pretty much just roll with it, yeah.

The Jeremy Vine/news montage in the trailer is about the extent of the explanation for how they "got from here to there". (Basically, society realised it needed to stop violence against women, the government passed the bill, and in a thoroughly unbelievable level of efficiency, made it happen.)

There's a little of the logistics of ankle tagging half the population, but only in so far as it intersects with the main story.

Gave up on Citadel: Diana on Prime. Couldn't get into it, not helped by not realising the first ep was presented to me dubbed.

 

Finished Agatha All Along on Disney. Shame the actual final revelations didn't beat those in episode seven, but quite fun.

 

Paris Has Fallen on Prime is worth a look if you are into "don't question things too closely" thrillers.

Rivals on Disney plus was excellent.

 

Trashy story, characters that are essentially caricatures of well-worn tropes, incredibly nsfw and just great viewing.

A truly excellent cast and wonderful 80's soundtrack bring it all together for eight episodes of gloriously over the top telly!

No, Season 2 ends on a cliff hanger. Season 1 has 6 episodes, I was watching Episode 5 of season 2, and the way it ended made me really want episode 6, and its then I found out there is only 5 episode is season 2, I was not happy! Season 3 has already been filmed though, and I read from the beginning it was suppose to be a trilogy season wise.
