Katalyst Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I'm currently in a large school and against the advice of the IT the teachers have all gone iPad and apple everything. They don't want to do the Apple TV root so I have looked at every possible way to get the iPad to display on a windows PC. (We have windows laptops connected to our projectors.) I have tried Reflector which worked brilliantly but it's only a seven day free trial. I then tried Mirroring360 and no matter what's suggested to me as "free" they actually mean the App is free to download but the software you stick on the PC is going to cost you. I've wrote to Reflector 2 and asked for a quote on a bulk order of license keys but does anyone have a suggestion that doesn't cost? ....aside from throwing the iPads out the window this has to be possible.
XiJ Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I haven't seen a solution that doesn't cost - but reflector works well for us in our primary schools. And at a cost of $15 max per license its not expensive. We have a full schools worth of licenses for less than half the cost of an iPad. 1
Sibrows Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 We've used air server as a more cost effective method but yet again not free. From what I could see when we reviewed the two well over a year ago the only difference was the price between reflector and air server. I'm not aware of a 'free' way to achieve this. 1

Meldrew Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I presume your problem is that there's no money to buy a solution. Must have been plenty to buy the iPads though... At the end of the day, unless they want the iPads to end up gathering dust in a drawer somewhere, money needs to be found for a good solution, or all the teachers will all want laptops instead at even more cost and a lot of wasted money spent on the iPads. Typical 'lets buy shiny' without a thought to implications. Meldrew.
Marshall_IT Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 One more thing to bare in mind if you didn't know. You want to limit the number of some services on a single subnet, if you get over 400 it starts to show down with all the broadcasts.
MrFrostmaul Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 +1 for AirServer as well. A good solution I found to look at the costing for licences/apps etc. for iPads is to say £20 per iPad for Licencing, Apps and other software requirements which so far for us has worked very well.

Ideally I wanted a cost free answer but from trailing Reflector I think it's worth every penny. I'm going to now look into Presto to give them the ability to print.

caffrey Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 +1 for Airserver -1 for Airserver for banging the price up it used to be really cheap It's straightforward enough to create a Raspberry Pi and avahi as a bonjour gateway, we've been using one for over a year without any real issues
