unable to connect supervised ipad to another computer

Have a bunch of supervised iPads across several schools and started getting complaints that staff can no longer connect iPads to computers(running Windows) to take images/videos off. Ipads were setup with allow connecting to another computer enabled and staff were able to take pictures and videos off.

 

Have tried myself and confirmed this is no longer possible for them.

 

The only change I can thing of is update from ios7 to 8. I have ensured the supervison mac is up to date, including updating configurator, the configuration profile and refreshing the profile installation on the ipads.

 

Is there something that was brought into iOS8 to prevent connection to a computer or is there some part of my configuration that needs updating?

 

Currently have to connect to the supervising mac to get images off which is less than ideal

On the prepare page there is a tick box for "Allow devices to connect to other Macs" its tool-tip is "Devices can be connected to other Macs to transfer photos and videos" was this ticked when you first prepared them? Edited June 15, 2015 by JJonas

They were prepared about 18 months/2 years ago, I can't remember if that was an option in configurator then. Staff have always been able to connect them, that would suggest yes to me. It wasn't until we rolled out ios8 that this issue arose.

 

I will try unsupervising and resupervising one to see if that works.

make sure you take the photo's off before you unsupervise. Also are they connecting them upto XP machines. There seems to be a blip with XP requiring the latest iTunes version in order to connect and take photos off

good point about backing up the ipad before unsupervising.

 

There are a mixture of OSs, some XP some 7 and my laptop which is 8 and still no joy - my laptop had the latest itunes installed as I did wonder if there was a changed to the mobile support module.

 

I've come across that XP error before. if you don't want to role out iTunes to fix it you can just download iTunes, extract using 7zip or similar and just deploy the Apple Mobile Support msi.

I've had a few where the 'Trust this computer' button doesn't appear first time when they plug them in. Requires replugging in.

Hi I have the same issue. Using Apple Configurator (1.7.2 560) to set up new ipads, when prepared, can connect to various pc's (XP, 7 and 8). Once supervised the option to trust computer or allow access to photo's and video's no longer there. I cannot see why?

Isn't there a setting where you can trust a computer in iTunes?

We had this issue-- apparently its how supervised mode is supposed to work.

 

Policy decision made that only some ipads are unsupervised-- pupils ones are not.

It's not how it worked before. Existing ipads prepared and supervised by Apple Configurator will prompt to trust computer and allow photos and videos to be downloaded.

We have been told- this is how it works in ios9. spent ages unsupervising

I had this same issue - not being able to connect any of the iPads to a PC after the iOS 8 update.

 

In the end, I had to erase, unsupervise and then prepare all the iPads again. This time making sure that the 'Allow devices to connect to other Macs' was ticked.

 

Also, you do quite often have to plug and unplug the iPad twice before the 'Trust this computer' option appears on the iPad.
