bazgee Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Hi all, I am hoping some fellow web designers and IT Professionals can give me their opinions and constructive critism on our school website that I design and maintain. I have posted in the past and thought I would ask for all your opinions again as a lot has changed on the website since then. Thank you link below St. Cuthbert's Primary School | Seaham

rich_tech Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Looks good, like the menu structures and systems in place Though I am no web designer, just an end user here, everything is laid out well to me.
speckytecky Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Personally I think it's fabulous. Nice and clear, easy to navigate and functional. What more could anyone ask for. Well done @bazgee
Grey-gear Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Looks really good, I'm not a web designer but that was easy to use and everything is easy to read.
mikkydoos Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) Very nice m8. Does exactly what it needs to do. Only thing I'd do would be to up the image quality a bit on the 0image roll on the home page. Oh.... and lighten the purple bar at the top. Bit heavy to my eyes. Nice work. Like the little logos next to the menu titles Edited June 8, 2015 by mikkydoos
rush_tech Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Hi One thing I would say is that in this day and age it needs to be responsive. I'm working on ours at the moment.
bossman Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 @bazgee Very quick, looks like a good 2 click depth of page for information, excellent content, only one fault I came across: Only minor but very nice well done
Joanne Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I only had a quick look, but put the school phone number on the bottom along with the school address and perhaps a contact e-mail address? Otherwise looks really good. Easy to navigate!
dry Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 @bazgee Very quick, looks like a good 2 click depth of page for information, excellent content, only one fault I came across: Only minor but very nice well done That'll be your filtering buddy... fine for me!
Garacesh Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I like the happy sun Excellent layout, I picked a few random topics I might like to find out as a parent before I even clicked the link, and then went hunting for them, had no trouble finding them. Only negative comment I'd say is get rid of the guestbook. Those things serve only to provide 419 scammers with a fresh batch of email addresses. Never been fond of them. But hey, that's just me.
Ralph1337 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I'm not really a Web designer either, but i've dabbled in CSS3. But it looks really good! a few little critiques though; On the Reading at School page the font on the documents seems a little small to me. It's readable; even without my glasses, but some may struggle. Plus, there's alot of information on that page + comic sans? Maybe cut it down to key points and have the option to download the full leaflet? Differencing themes throughout; One is squared corners, (Pupil Premium | St. Cuthbert's Primary School) Other is circular (School Data | St. Cuthbert's Primary School) Admissions | St. Cuthbert's Primary School Is this a webpage inside a webpage?
bossman Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 (edited) @dry Must have been a glitch at the LEA as our filtering allows this site for everyone, below is one of our student accounts accessing said site: Seems it must have been as the link comes up alright now Edited June 8, 2015 by bossman
difinity Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 On this page Healthy Eating | St. Cuthbert's Primary School the formatting in the second section has left almost a full blank line.
witch Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 On the front page you have a semi-colon AND an "and". Should be one or the other: "secure; and have the opportunity to reach their full potential."
DPrince Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 On the front page you have a semi-colon AND an "and". Should be one or the other: "secure; and have the opportunity to reach their full potential." I'd suggest the semi-colon should be replaced by a comma.
juicyfruit Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Have you considered making the design 'responsive' to fit varying different sizes of mobile and tablet screens? 1
Ketlane Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Like it. Does what you need. Significantly better than one I have to use regularly (won't name the school, different part of the country). The staff mugshots - as on so many websites - are a bit mugshot-like. I'd try to get pictures of the staff doing things - teaching, marking, cooking, NMing, whatever....it would provide more personalisation.
GeekyPete Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I like it a lot, the photo slide show on the home page slows it down a lot until it loads. Consider smaller images. Needs more Dinosaurs.
