Garacesh Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 but the fox's strange the-speaking patterns are starting to get to the-me. I'm just mentally filing it as a "Jar-Jar" and leaving it there. I didn't think Sith Lords existed in Final Fantasy?
ICTDirect_Dave Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I didn't think Sith Lords existed in Final Fantasy? What about Sithiroth? 1
FishCustard Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I've been out of the PC gaming world for a good while, but I was chatting with some of my more up-to-date colleagues yesterday and they recommended that I try Overwatch. For £17 I thought why not, and I had great fun last night playing as Mei (sp?) - freezing people and then shooting them in the head with an icicle. I also gave a fair few of the others a try, but I imagine like things such as Street Fighter it takes a while to learn each one. The annoying thing is that my PC is somewhat on its last legs, and I was thinking of just not replacing it and using my laptop. That may no longer be an option!

But then it just got pretty boring and samey. Certain heroes became too unbalanced, an obvious meta developed, they nerfed that so a new obvious meta developed, and I just lost interest. Don't know if they've fixed that now or not. It's good you're enjoying it though!

FishCustard Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I do miss playing Overwatch, it was the Hanzo/Genji meta that used to be annoying though, not sure what it's like these days. Hanzo is the guy with the longbow, right? He still seems very (annoyingly) powerful from my brief play.
Garacesh Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I do miss playing Overwatch, it was the Hanzo/Genji meta that used to be annoying though, not sure what it's like these days. IIRC the meta used to be Reinhardt; Roadhog; and D.Va/Orisa (Dubbed 'Triple tank'), plus Tracer; Genji; and Ana/Lucio. Ana was usually the one picked because her Biotic Grenade was OP. Then they nerfed Orisa and Ana; and reworked D.Va and the meta fell off a little. Then they released Brigitte and the meta ended up revolving entirely around her. Oh plus there was that GOATS thing, I can't remember what the comp was, but the only way to win against a GOATS team was to out-GOATS them yourself with our own identical GOATS lineup. Hanzo is the guy with the longbow, right? He still seems very (annoyingly) powerful from my brief play. Yeah, he used to have a mega broken ability but then they fixed that. Hanzo and Genji are one of those very high skill ceiling characters, but everyone hates them because 'lol weebs'. 1
FishCustard Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Yeah, he used to have a mega broken ability but then they fixed that. Hanzo and Genji are one of those very high skill ceiling characters, but everyone hates them because 'lol weebs'. And yet D.Va seems very popular / well liked, despite also potentially being a "lol weebs" character (I mean - young woman, Asian background, plugsuit, giant mecha, you can't fit many more anime tropes into a character. All she'd need is some psychological trauma and she'd fit right in with the Evangelion pilots!). No criticism intended, all the characters seem very well designed and have a lot of backstory which I intend to read!
Garacesh Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Yeah, but she's Korean, and apparently that's okay? I jest, but I do actually have an idea of what makes D.Va acceptable though. (That being said, she does get a lot of hate for being able to 'eat' half the ults in the game! Gravi, Dragons, Pulse Mine, Snowball, etc). I think it's less directly to do with 'lol weeb' and more to do with the styles of the players that pick them. There's very much a (reasonably accurate) trope of players that pick only Genji or only Hanzo, whereas a D.Va player is more likely to flex. So I think Hanzo and Genji get a lot of flak because some players will still pick them when they don't aid the team comp, and will refuse to change when this is pointed out to them. So the 'lol weeb' is more directed at the player, insinuating they care more about being able to play their precious 'weeb' character than they do about the team (emphasis on team) game. But then again I'm not really the type of person to genuinely use 'weeb' as an insult, so, maybe I'm wrong. All that being said, I expect a chunk of it is also the fact that it's reeeeeaaaaally hard to deal with a Genji player that knows what they're doing. Pro Genji's can turn the tide of the match on a dime. But that also makes a lot of people only play Genji because they want to become 'Pro Genji', which again feeds into the anger at people who don't flex. Edited July 16, 2019 by Garacesh
Maurice_Moss Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 Daymare: 1998 anyone ? It seems like the indie market will always have a few surprises up its sleeve
LeMarchand Posted July 18, 2019 Posted July 18, 2019 Don't really understand this, but apparently there's a way to save loads with an XBox Game Pass: https://www.pocket-lint.com/games/news/xbox/148712-xbox-game-pass-ultimate-lifehack-deal

You put a load of time on xbox live gold then buy the £1/month trial of gamepass and it convets (1:1) all your XBL gold time to gamepass. If you already have gamepass then try and add XBL gold it converts at 4:1 (4 moths of gold = 1 month of gamepass).

Pro Genji's can turn the tide of the match on a dime. But that also makes a lot of people only play Genji because they want to become 'Pro Genji', which again feeds into the anger at people who don't flex. That makes a lot of sense, and I agree that she's powerful. I played a few matches as her yesterday and was surprised at what I was able to just neutralise. The fact that I managed to blow up pretty much the entire opposing team with her reactor overload more than once was also good fun (like... do people forget she can do that? I suppose it's quite hard to avoid if it's just thrown at you from around a corner.).
Garacesh Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) Her explosion is relatively easy to block if you're a competent team with a decent lineup and communication (so, basically, it's OP in quick play and sometimes kinda useless in ranked/competitive). Usually the strat, from what I remember, was to speed-boost up at a 95 degree angle, then ult, and your mech flies over some obstacles, then falls down when the boosters run out, then BOOM. If the enemy can't tell where the mech is, they can't run from it. Rein and Winston are the obvious counters, Roadhog can still hook it to drag it somewhere else (usually dying in the process, but if it saves the rest of your team..), I think Zen's ult shields against it too. Or you could just delta split and hide behind a wall. IIRC Reaper and Moira also aren't affected if they time their ethereal abilities right. But yeah, D.Va eating projectiles is her biggest strength, though it's 'balanced' by being so hard to master. You need insane game awareness to be able to consistently catch the big plays. Probably the 'best' thing for her to eat is Zarya's Graviton Surge, but you need to be able to predict exactly when she's gong to do it because the Defence Matrix doesn't last long. That requires understanding the flow of the game, keeping track of ult timers/rough damage output, knowing where their team are, where your team are, etc. It only takes 2 seconds.. Sure, she can also eat Tracer's Pulse Mines or Hanzo's Dragons, but you need to basically be in their face to be effected by those (Tracer doesn't throw it very far and Hanzo's arrow turns into the dragons after a short distance) so what the enemy is doing ulting a D.Va in the face is beyond my comprehension. FishCustard Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Yeah, I think I just got lucky - still amusing though!

(i had to kill a unit i diddnt manage to recruit and i gave the unique dancer gig to a character who leaves you if you take the path i did) end spoiler also played about 10-15 hours of gta5 doing a heist (completed 2 which is more than ive done since it came out) and the new casino missions that was fun
featured_spectre Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Anyone here play Europa Universalis IV or Crusader Kings II?
sted Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 anyone picking up ghost recon breakpoint on xbox and want another player?
PotNoodleTech Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 anyone picking up ghost recon breakpoint on xbox and want another player? Played the beta and thought it was really MEH and buggy as heck. It's also too samey coupled with destiny/BOREDerlands type loot. Not a purchase for me.

Not a purchase for me. i liked the alpha/betas of it it reminded me of wildlands though the destiny type stuff does have me a bit worried ive never played a more boring game than destiny (a long time ago on a free weekend) and not played borderlands never really appealed and im not sure i want to even tacitly support randy pitchford
sted Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Played the beta and thought it was really MEH and buggy as heck. It's also too samey coupled with destiny/BOREDerlands type loot. Not a purchase for me. well i know i bucked the trend but i enjoyed the 50+ hours i played in ghost recon breakpoint. did the main story and some side stuff. I wasnt a massive fan of the loot system that had me switching out my level x tac-50 for a level x+5 tac-50 repeatedly (i found a great sniper early on and stuck with it) on the other hand it made me try more weapons in the other slot rather than just going with an asr the whole time. I diddnt have many bugs jsut the odd the drone wouldnt deploy that tbh i wasnt sure if it was a bug or some sort of realism feature to make you try assaulting a target a different way. i traded in my series 1 elite controoler yesterday for a series 2 (got 80 back for it not bad only losing £30 over 4 years) not really used the series 2 yet though as im playing Atelier ryzer on my ps4 (well when i get back to it this weekend) then probably straight into Pokemon shield
CHiLL Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Just finished The Outerworlds and I enjoyed it. It plays very much like a Bethesda game with less bugs and better writing. Admittedly the first half of the game is better than the latter, but I enjoyed it anyway. Especially since it's on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which I got three months for £1. I now want to play Gears 5 via Xbox Game Pass, but when I click the Install button in the Microsoft Store - nothing happens! Despite I'm signed in, the pass is still active and this is exactly what I did when installing The Outerworlds! The Microsoft Store is a pile of garbage.

CHiLL Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 so nothing like a bethesda game then Hah. Though it does have some hallmarks of Bethesda like zoomy face when you chat to an NPC, it's like an episode of Peep Show. Also the post-game slide show with commentary about your choices and how they affected the game.
failnator Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Main problem i had with it is how short the main quest line was. Plus once you beat the game there is no game plus where you can go around after. Otherwise happy to see what they come up with next.
