so did anyone see the ff7 new remake trailer last night/this morning. Im still unsure about it after hating ff15 so much im not sure i want what looks like a non turn based battle system and shile it looks better (duh) im not sure i really want to play it again esp as i tried the xbox one version of 7 a bit back and got near a certain point in the story and just couldnt go on im not sure i want to see that cut scene again with more realistic characters. Also cloud still looks like Elliott from scrubs just an angry version

also watched the ghost recon breakpoint reveal. that game looks fun and i really enjoyed wildlands but the last few ubisoft games have left me cold so im hoping i can get into the beta (i have a good track record with ubisoft betas) and try if before i cough up any cash (and the game can be up to £92 if you want the season pass and early access etc)

Watched it an hour ago. My it's pretty. I was excited to see lots of ffvii scenes I recognised, but from different angles.

I love the original, but the format is pretty dated and the battles get repetitive. I'm rather looking forward to experiencing that epic story from a more interactive standpoint.

in theory yes but ff15 was for me just so bad i dont trust square to make a fun rpg anymore. The last few new(at least at the time) square rpgs ive tried have all gone unfinished, so ff13 lightning returns i think i managed 1-2 hours, world of final fantasy wasn't that bad but i never finished it in part i think due to the voice acting of that floating fox thing driving me round the bend, dragons quest 11 the story wasn't great and the music was after a while was awful and turning it off diddnt help it just feels wrong playing a game without its own music (i gave up after the horse racing bit), ff15 i managed 90 mins it never gave me a reason to care about the boyband you play as and their constant drivel was annoying. that said i enjoyed replaying ff13 and when i decide ive had enough achievement hunting im going into part 2 and will at least give lightning returns another shot

Saw the FFVII thing last night - I want it, but I also want them to spend as much time as is needed to make it right - rather than rushing out something that's sub-standard.

They've spent a good few years on it already!

I'm hoping it's not PS4 only....

Exactly this. I'm happy for it to be episodic if it means they nail it, the sheer scale of the game makes this an almost impossible job to do in one go, but if they stitch in new parts of the world with each episode I'll be fine with it.

It lokos so far like they're setting the standard as Advent Children rather than the original game and I like that ambition :)

I'm excited for the FF7R. I really enjoyed FFXV but the whole constant side quest system needed work with more in depth lore story telling. They went from a very impressive story game in FF13 but far too linear.. to the complete opposite. I feel like George Lucas is involved where he is too busy arguing what made Final Fantasy so popular. They don't seem to realise it's all the elements. Huge world to explore, impressive story and plenty of worth while extras to discover.

I'll say this for FFXV though.. the bromance was impressive.

For FF7, I hope they don't cut back on anything. Yes the fights were a grind usually but just pressing one button to attack for experience wasn't so bad. Think we've far too used to not grinding in RPGs for levels. I love the look and feel of what has been shown. This game is the only one I look forward to.

Also - to be fair regardless of if people like it or not, VII has the biggest following of any Squeenix game. Mucking this up would be suicide for them. It HAS to be right.

but square almost cant win. a modern game with turn based would be odd but im not sure i want to play it non turn based on their recent games (and i cant be the only one). its always going to be a better game to remember than play. look at their secret of mana remake it was simple and it was the crash happiest console game ive ever played. you cant compete with someone childhood memory of playing a game it can never live up to it because you arnt the same person you were at 16

16? I was 6 when FFVII was released...

I mean, you say that, but didn't Octopath Traveller do insanely well? Clearly there's still a demand for the old Final Fantasy-esque games with ATB systems.

I'd 2nd that, part of the charm of FFVII was the strategy involved with the ATB, especially in battles where your party is outnumbered or against opponents with much less time between turns.

I've recently purchased FFIV & VI on the recent Steam sale, started IV over the weekend; absolutely loving it so far.

FF VII and VIII are my fav games.

Literally the only person ever that's admitted to liking both :p

Personally I wasn't fond of the 7, especially the Materia system. The Junction system was much better, I thought, though if and only if you could stomach the grind to stock up spells, which apparently youngling Gara could. But I appreciate why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Oh i argee that VII wasn't the best, but it was VII that got me hooked, I hated the Materia side of the game, VIII was so much better! the junctioning was 100% better!

I loved both VII & VIII.

I thought the story in VII was the best and I absolutely loved the materia system. You could make some absolutely killer combinations given a little thought.

VIII was graphically beautiful, and the story was good too. However, the junction system I found frustrating.

I admit I figured out elemental resistance and micromanaging GF abilities quite easily, but it took me a while to clock on to Status magic.

But once you figured out how to junction Drain, Death or Blind to your attacks.... :D

Why the GF's were defaulted to always prioritise SUM-MAG X% is beyond me, though. Play the Junction system right and you never have to summon a GF at all.

Exceptions can be made for maybe Shiva during the Ifrit fight, because it makes it significantly easier.

And Carbuncle. Because he makes Edea 1 nuke herself :D

I dont think i spent the time or bothered to work it out properly. Sort of half arsed it.

Took my time alot more on VIII to understand it and make my life easier.

Again VII was about strategy, the materia system underpinned it. You go into a boss fight with the wrong or unbalanced materia setup / party your either going to struggle or lose, a good setup like using elemental materia on armour or a weapon can make a massive difference. Although I admit one of the best parts of the game is when Yuffie steals your materia and your forced to fight through just using strength and items.

The magic system in VIII, meh! I really didn't care for it, although a strategic element it was just too time consuming and tedious.

on my last playthrough (before i abandoned it) i got to yuffies village pretty early ion the game (about as soon as you can) and that wasnt fun though in the xb1 version the invincibility etc helps lol)

i heard as many complaints about octapath as good things (i played the demo and wasnt bothered enough to but it) mainly the end game being stupid and not worth the insane grind and the stories dont really go together well

i finished ff13 part 1 recently and went to part 2 not really feeling it though the crysalarium system was changed in an odd way and im not sure what im supposed to do with it really lol not to mention im not sure swapping the 3rd character for a captured enemy is a great solution. also started gt sport over the weekend. its been a long time since i played a gt game but i really dont like the way the deal with stuff like racing lines etc forza does it a lot better(i generally have it on for corners only as a reminder and try not to use it but the way gt sport does it is weird instead of a coloured line it just flashes up break on the screen
