korifugi Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 Finished my 'normal' run of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Decided to try a "Deadly Obsession" difficulty run - not liking the distance between checkpoints as I've already lost a couple of hours a few times over.
sted Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 on and somehow (thanks square for an achievement worth 16 points) i have a really weird gamerscore now instead of the usual ending in 5/0 (56001 ffs) - - - Updated - - - Finished my 'normal' run of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Decided to try a "Deadly Obsession" difficulty run - not liking the distance between checkpoints as I've already lost a couple of hours a few times over. i enjoyed shadow of the tomb raider but not enough to try a harder difficulty or to go back and do the last dlc tomb they released
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 The new details about FFVII Remake have me very excited! Good lord it's a pretty game!
BKGarry Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I am playing the original for the first time in my life (I wasn't allowed games consoles growing up due to a issue from when i was 2 between the parentals) I am not too sure about the battling system but lets wait and see ay
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 @ICTDirect_Dave OMG! it looks amazing! It really does! I am playing the original for the first time in my life (I wasn't allowed games consoles growing up due to a issue from when i was 2 between the parentals) I am not too sure about the battling system but lets wait and see ay I was worried about the battle system until I saw them explain it. The hybrid ATB system could be a lot of fun. And that boss fight! Oh yes!
LTurner3692 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Might have to dig the old one out and start it now so i remember what im doing!
Garacesh Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 [insert Gara's typical rant about how 8 was better than 7] Nah, I'll admit, even as someone who didn't really like 7 all that much, the remake looks hella interesting. If it weren't playstation exclusive I'd probably pick it up when it eventually went on sale. 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 [insert Gara's typical rant about how 8 was better than 7] You'll appreciate this then Nah, I'll admit, even as someone who didn't really like 7 all that much, the remake looks hella interesting. If it weren't playstation exclusive I'd probably pick it up when it eventually went on sale. They've backtracked on the Playstation exclusive now. It's launching first on Playstation with other platforms following soon after. I'm looking forwards to the Xbox One X Edition
Bumhug360 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Also worth pointing out it is not a full remake, this is part one and only covers Midgar, they have fleshed it out a bit to make it a standalone game but they have yet to confirm just how many parts they are breaking it into
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 True, this part is two bluerays worth of content and covers Midgar, which you'd assume means no summons. However there's plenty of material in the first part of the story to make a game's worth of content. As for the other episodes, I'd imagine it split into two further episodes, episode two concluding with the battle against Jenova Life in the ancient city and episode three taking us to the end. Though I admit that last part might be a little big With luck they'll stitch it all into one game as the episodes are released so you can revisit past locations at will.

I remember reading somewhere that all the backgrounds and stuff in 8 were uuuber HQ but there's only a few surviving backdrops, most of the originals were lost/deleted after compression/etc. Edited June 11, 2019 by Garacesh
sted Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 im still worried about ff7 remake for 2 reasons 1 i dont want to watch Aeris die in hd 2 squares last attempts at real time battle systems ff13.3 and ff15 are awful games i diddnt manage to play either for more than 2 hours the combat was that bad on the other hand as soon as i get a eshop card im getting the mana collection i just hope they have bug tested it better than the secret of mana ps4 game ive never played a console game that crashes so frequently (on average once an hour)
korifugi Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 i just hope they have bug tested it better than the secret of mana ps4 game ive never played a console game that crashes so frequently (on average once an hour) To be fair - now they've patched the hell out of Secret of Mana, it runs pretty well. I didn't encounter any issues on my run through and I got the Platinum out of it.
LeMarchand Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Was reading an article about Cyberpunk 2077 and it reminded me that the original game was set in 2013 and even the 2nd Edition used 2020. Where are my implants, dammit! 2

LeMarchand Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Disappointed that I can't see any kids wandering around with the new Harry Potter game. Mind you, I had to go quite obscure to pick a name...

Kids went bonkers here when Pokémon Go was released.. I doubt we'll be seeing the same reaction for Harry Potter. Especially not with JK and all her retroactive continuity twitter stuff...
LeMarchand Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Kids went bonkers here when Pokémon Go was released.. I doubt we'll be seeing the same reaction for Harry Potter. Especially not with JK and all her retroactive continuity twitter stuff... I gave it a try Friday and "rescued" Hagrid from the school car park. Far too busy at the weekend to do any more than that.
Garacesh Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) I've given it a fair bit of effort.. Got up to Level 8. Won't be sticking with it. Pros: The graphics, to be fair, are pretty decent. The game still works flawlessly (and probably better, if Po:Go is anything to judge off) if you deny it access to your camera. The three different classes professions you can go have a good rock-paper-scissors kind of balance, and you can swap between them. An interesting mix of events from all corners of Harry Potter lore.. Goblins, trolls, flesh-eating slugs, pixies, unicorns, boggarts, etc. Includes character cameos, even if they are a bit bizarre (one of them is 'Young Ron Weasley' which makes no sense if Harry and Hermione are grown up and part of the Ministry of Magic) It doesn't literally strangle a child and then ask you to pay money. Cons: The wand/spellcasting effects take too long and are all the same just with different flavours colours. Energy not recharging when you're not playing is a huge one for me, even though I can reach a inn from my bedroom. I don't mind the energy system, but to not have it recharge when inactive is a massively anti-consumer tactic. Data miners have uncovered that the success rates of some of the events(? anomalies?) are abysmally small. 0.1%. Whilst I expect these rates will be 'base' rates with various modifiers applied for how well you cast the spell traced the symbol, I doubt they'll increase much. The battle mechanics are dumb, unintuitive and clearly devised to repeatedly interrupt your 'attacks' The multiplayer features are 'tacked on' rather than being a core part of the gameplay. It's a singleplayer game with multiplayer bits shoehorned in to try and force you to use them. I appreciate that not everybody wants a pure multiplayer game like Ingress, but I feel the game was incredibly improved by making the social aspect an integral part. Pokemon Go had a decent middle-ground. Core gameplay loop is boring, and the weak tolerances of symbol tracing get pretty annoying. Edited June 24, 2019 by Garacesh
bald_pig Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 This came up on a classical music playlist I was listening to. Damn I need to play a star wars game again! May have to try and find my copy of Rogue Squadron!
korifugi Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Yesterday I finally managed to get the platinum out of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The hardest bit being the "Deadly Obsession" difficulty run: The no health regen and low supplies aren't an issue - even the 'no pointers' and no survival view were only minor setbacks. The main issue? No checkpoints. Certainly for a game that relies heavily on 'get it right or die' platforming sections that sometimes decide that you want to jump to another area completely, thus wiping a couple of hours of progress. Oh, and the 'do the doohickey' on the final boss 5 times rather than 3 was a nasty surprise, too. Still - broken it now and in the words of the Foo Fighters "on to the next one" Damned sisters in Persona 5 hitting every weakness. Still the upstairs PS4 has World of Final Fantasy in it - which I'm enjoying massively.

Still the upstairs PS4 has World of Final Fantasy in it - which I'm enjoying massively. that dosent even sound a fun way to play sotr i enjoyed it but without checkpoints nope you mean the prison guards in the optional fight. i think that was the hardest fight in the game and is pretty time limited but i did manage it as persona 5 is one of my 2 platinums (the other is nier automata). i like the idea of trophies / achievements but some of them just seem like a way to make me hate the game. Take horizon zedro dawn theres a trophy for getting top medals on bow/caster etc some i could do but most it would make me repeat the same thing so often i would hate the game esp when you fail by 0.5 seconds or some other daqft time world of final fantasy i found ok but that damn floaty white fox eventually drove me round the twist saying kuppo all the time and the odd speech patterns eventually i just stopped playing it. I dont think square should be allowed to have talking characters in games they just seem to make me hate their games (ff15 was the same the boyband that wouldnt cram a sock in it)
korifugi Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 you mean the prison guards in the optional fight Yup, them two. I'm currently working to boost my party up - I've got Saturnael for Joker so there's no weaknesses there, just need to sort the rest out. damn floaty white fox eventually drove me round the twist saying kuppo all the time and the odd speech patterns Y'see - I dont mind a Moogle saying 'kupo', I'm used to that - but the fox's strange the-speaking patterns are starting to get to the-me. I'm just mentally filing it as a "Jar-Jar" and leaving it there.
