how much space do you allocate to the server system drive ?

Dear all,

We have few Server 2008 R2 & Server 2012 R2 vm on hyper-v, currently all the servers has 60gb for the C: drive and second drive for the application/web/file servers.

C: drive on all our servers only hosts the Windows system files. Applications are installed on the second drive.

 

With the regular windows updates, the servers are now getting close to space being fully used.

 

How much space do you normally allocate to the system drive of your virtual servers ?

And do you install every windows updates on your servers ?

 

Any help would be much apperciated, thank you.

yep I generally give them 100GB here too.

We normally allocate 50GB to System drives, all SQL data etc is on additional drives, Previous version data also stored on additional drive where applicable. We normally find this is ample for us.

 

Exchange has additional drive for paging file.

Purely system, I'm not out of space at 60gb on either 2012 or 2008, but i'm a little short on disk space on my VM hosts so I'm as mean as I can be with it.

 

I have installed the bit that adds 'disk cleanup' and 'cleanup system files' options to both so I can cleanup the windows update cache easily.

Generally 80 - 100GB here.

 

We've got one non-important server here which has been allocated 25GB which is fun and games!
