pickman Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 As we had a 40K thread thought I would see if any Roleplayers were out there? Wargames and Role-play seem to be very popular with people in IT. In my current club of 60 members about 75% work in IT of some form. Gave up in my early twenties but then restarted about ten years ago. Main game I play is Call of Cthulhu currently running escape from Innsmouth campaign. Sold a lot of my books just glad I kept the CoC stuff also have full set of Twilight 2000 Books.

halbaradkenafin Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Currently playing in a 5th ed D&D game with one group, going to start running the hoard of the Dragon Queen stuff soon myself for another group and just taking a short break from a 3.5 D&D game that turned into either Inquisitor or Dark Heresy (we don't know for certain yet).

Mako Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I am currently playing a 3.5e campaign, we're nearly at the Big Bad, and when it's done I will be DM'ing the next campaign. Have everything fleshed and mapped out, spent a few hours in the Civ5 map editor creating my world, then having someone who can actually draw turn it into a lovely drawn map. I must say, Microsoft OneNote is awesome for note-storing and compiling information for this sort of thing. In nearly every MMO I play, I look to roleplay. You tabletoppers are so half-hearted and amateurish. You want to get yourselves some LARPing done, get some fresh air I used to do American Civil War re-enactment. It's like hardcore LARP'ing. With gunpowder. And big muskets.

halbaradkenafin Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 For anyone with tablets look up 3d Virtual Tabletop in the app store (Android or iOS only unfortunately), it's a pretty cool bit of software that lets you import maps, set grid sizes, have markers for characters/npcs and even has a fog of war feature so you can hide things until the players discover it. I don't think it's out on Windows app store yet but Windows 10 will fix that anyway so I'm looking forward to using it myself.

We usually meet once a week on Saturday nights, me & 7 other players. I'd really like to do some Call of Cthulhu, our rogue player keeps hinting at starting a group but he never gets round to it!

Also keepered a playtest of horror on the orient express that campaign last 18 months of once a week play. Rules haven't changed much just some tweaks [emoji3]
Nosirra Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I play a game over fantasy grounds once a week, it's the Star Wars edge of the empire ruleset although we've applied it to a fantasy homebrew setting of the GM's. Great fun, would highly reccomend Fantasy Grounds for anyone wanting to Roleplay over the net.
korifugi Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Yes, started back with AD&D 2nd, and have played a huge number of systems - D&D3/3.5, D&D4th, Pathfinder, GURPS, Rolemaster/Spacemaster, Privateer, Warhammer Fantasy RP, BESM, Cyberpunk & Shadowrun to name just a few. My group is currently running through a D&D4th adventure, 4th is a bit too "paint by numbers" for my liking - but the person currently DMing finds it easier.

But in my defence, videos of LARP are always terrible and cheesy and the most godawful way of showing anything about it, not helped by the consistently shoddy level of potata cameremanship. In fact... *changes location in profile*. In some ways I wish G del T would make it, but I don't see why it would necessarily be "R" rated. If you haven't seen the HPL Historical Society movies "Call of Cthulhu" is well worth your pennies, but "Whisperer in Darkness" isn't quite as good. 1

I have a friend that does Fallout-style LARP. It looks pretty fun, truth be told. A lot of people in makeshift raider-style armour (Her shield is actually a 'warning: sheep' road sign* ) and paint up NERF guns real nice like. Tabletop Simulator | Berserk Games currently on sale...but I can almost guarantee within the next few days it will be cheaper! BUT...all those lovely boardgames you remember playing as a kid are available in the steam workshop! Hero Quest Advance D&D Chainsaw warrior and some of the more recent ones as well! also does card games! Cards against humanity MTG etc... oh and the "normal" board games Monopoly, cluedo etc for the money cant go wrong...all those games are FREE!

I'm going to be playing in a game in a few weeks which will start off human and then go to either Mage or Vampire depending on what each player wants. I've played oWoD Mage before but haven't done anything with nWoD so I'm curious how it plays mechanically and how it compares to oWoD. I'm reading up on the background etc on the wiki now to get an idea of the setting, so far I much prefer the oWoD setting but I'm sure I can adapt to that anyway as it will be a mixed supernatural game.
