kennysarmy Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Oh yea - don't you think it's a bit late!!!!! Dear Schools Cash Office User Please pass this email to your IT SUPPORT as a matter of URGENCY As many of you will be aware Java 8 has been released by Oracle and after April 2015 no further security updates will be available for Java 7. For many of our customers this will not cause an issue but if you use our online payments, communications or Parents Evening Modules JAVA 8 is not compatible with our sync process and will not work once upgraded, unfortunately this is beyond our control. You therefore have 2 options : Upgrade your SCO database to SQL Server - you will need to ensure that you are on the latest version of SCO (2.3.0.25 or higher) and then follow instructions in the following links : SCO SQL Migration Instructions: http://www.tucasihelp.com/documents/2.3SCOSQLMigrationInstructions.pdf SCO SQL Troubleshooter: http://www.tucasihelp.com/documents/2.3SCOSQLTroubleshooter.pdf Remain on Java 7 in which case no further action is necessary – Because of this situation, we have removed the dependency on Java from our newest version of Schools Cash Office which will be released to schools over the coming months, please reply to this email if you wish to be scheduled for this upgrade at the earliest opportunity NB – If you are already using a SQL Server Database and you wish to upgrade to Java 8 you MUST ensure that you are on the latest version of SCO (2.3.0.25 or higher) and then follow the instructions below (synch will not work until all steps have been completed): http://www.tucasihelp.com/documents/2.3SCOSyncInstructions.pdf http://tucasihelp.com/downloads/2.3.0.25-sco-AB9AD573-n.exe
Vegas Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 We've just seen the same email and said exactly the same thing!
kennysarmy Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 We've just seen the same email and said exactly the same thing! Thankfully I'd only rolled out JAVA 8 to my clients and not done any updates on the Server, which is still on JAVA 7 - so all OK here!
Oaktech Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 (edited) Indeed... The office will be staying Java 7 for the foreseeable future then! I can't justify an SQL install for something that gets used once in a blue moon. LeEdit: I only install Java on a 'need to have it' basis anyway, none of the pupil machines need it, so I don't have an automated deployment for it. Edited April 28, 2015 by Oaktech
Vegas Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 We'll just be leaving everything on 7 until they release the upgrade.
LeMarchand Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Oh yea - don't you think it's a bit late!!!!! Dear Schools Cash Office User Please pass this email to your IT SUPPORT as a matter of URGENCY Way too late; especially as I called them a while ago and this was identified as a possible problem. Thankfully I'd only rolled out JAVA 8 to my clients and not done any updates on the Server, which is still on JAVA 7 - so all OK here! Same here, luckily. Indeed... The office will be staying Java 7 for the foreseeable future then! I can't justify an SQL install for something that gets used once in a blue moon. LeEdit: I only install Java on a 'need to have it' basis anyway, none of the pupil machines need it, so I don't have an automated deployment for it. I think Java 8 is only a problem on the server. (At least we've not had problems on the clients so far...) Wish I could get shot of Java . We'll just be leaving everything on 7 until they release the upgrade. I'm planning on leaving the servers "as is" - can't be faffed setting up things the way they suggest just to use J8. JAVA 8 is not compatible with our sync process and will not work once upgraded, unfortunately this is beyond our control. ...or we can't be bothered to sort it out? Still, if they're recoding without reliance on Java I can't complain too much.
AJWhite1970 Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Installed 8 on the server for something else last Friday. No transaction updates synced over the weekend. Phoned them for support and they highlighted the Java 8 issue. Uninstalled 8 and reinstalled 7. All syncs started working again. Went off to next job mumering about cr&ppy software. Will wait for the non Java version before updating anything else... Andrew

So you can stay on Java 7 for good or move to SQL. Java will always be needed for internet payments. Edited April 28, 2015 by Edu-IT 1

They are saying a future update (rolled out within 6 months) will remove the reliance on JAVA so after that point you can update at will to 8 and beyond! 1

Jobos Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Anyone know if School Cash Office has been made Java free yet?
Edu-IT Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Anyone know if School Cash Office has been made Java free yet? Java isn't listed as being a requirement in the latest 2.4 version. http://www.tucasihelp.com/documents/2.4SCOInstallationGuide.pdf I think you have to ask to move to the 'cloud' version.
Jobos Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks. It looks like a totally new version but strange School Cash Office haven't told us it's available.
dry Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Yes 2.4 is now hosted by Tucasi and hence no Java requirement- just install the client on the PC and away you go. On a side note, has anyone had the misfortune of dealing with Tucasi support? We're currently sitting on a ticket that's been open for over 2 weeks with an issue with the SIMS integration. I randomly get phone calls asking whether I've put the password in correctly etc... I mean, come on! I don't mind being asked once but it takes the biscuit the third time I get a call to ask if I've done x random thing that I'd confirmed on the first phone call. They're giving me the cold treatment via email and they only have an 0844 number meaning that being on summer break with just a payg phone, it's very difficult to get hold of them.
Jobos Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 When was the update released and is the client interface the same as v2.3?

You can use 023 8062 5880 instead @dry if that helps. The interface is the same, on the whole, but it looks as though the login has changed slightly. You login with an email address now from what I can tell. I think there's a queue to be moved over to 2.4 so I'd get in and ask to be put on the list. I think they're doing migrations in batches as they have to test the DB. Edited July 30, 2015 by Edu-IT

Yes I've tried that number several times but it just rings and rings annoyingly- whereas they generally answer the 0844 number within two rings. They claim it's the same cost to call as a local number- sure isn't from my mobile!!

I tried both and it seems to go through to the same automated system.
