Serious question.. What "Live coverage" can the BBC have? O.o

 

They could have a "Live reveal", I guess, where whatever bod counts the votes says "$Party have won!" but what kind of 'coverage' can they have? (Live Coverage, to me, implies constant, continuous footage of some variety.).. Are they just going to have people with big cameras stood outside polling offices watching the queues move slowly..?

 

If it's like 5 years ago, just them talking to people and playing with the swing-omitor till the results start coming in when they will start painting a map.

As far as i'm aware it's to do with ideologies/interpretations of colours, so for example one of the obvious ones would be the green party; as this particular party is more focused on environmental issues they get green rosettes.

or on the other hand you have the BNP who use the colours of the Union Jack due to what they stand for.

I think it all comes down to trying to present a 'brand' of their party. Obviously each party has their own logo/etc but it looks a bit garish to walk around with your party logo plastered on your clothes etc, so they probably 'regressed' towards its basic form in order to differentiate themselves.

 

I wonder if any new political party sprung up and used an already-used colour, would they get told off..?

Very correct, however in my answer I did state that it is sometimes the parties' interpretation of the colour, so one party may associate a certain colour with communism or liberalism and avoid/chose that.

There are already many parties with similar if not the same colour, it is just that the main parties have like you say differentiated to allow the ability to establish a more recognisable brand for their party.

So anyone going to watch the live coverage on the BBC then?

 

I'll have Radio 4 on in the background overnight, and I'll keep my laptop open on the results page so whenever I wake up I can look at all the purty colours.

After spending all night getting this to work I need one :)

 

Not unless jet lag keeps me awake. It's been great being away on holiday... we have missed out on wall to wall election and royal baby coverage :)

 

I will vote and then avoid the blow by blow stuff on tv.

I find it extraordinarily depressing that 20% of a group of people employed (largely) in schools would vote for the party of Gove. Just what?

Done my civic duty and got to work to hear a couple of staff talking about voting for UKIP purely on the immigrant/EU point. I did try and ask what his taxation/benefit/foreign etc policy was but they couldn't really answer.

I have no issue with people voting for a party - but I do have an issue with people voting for a party whose manifesto they have not even read :(

Hmm.. Ed Balls did a sterling job though didn't he? Have we all forgotten BSF/PFI already

Oh and then there's that thing about the deficit that none of them and their followers want to admit to..

Why do you think disliking one party means we like someone else's party? I didn't like Balls, he made plenty of mistakes (balls ups, if you will). That said, he was a million times better than Gove. Gove has damaged the education system in this country significantly. Even then, this isn't Tony Blairs or Gordon Brown's government is it? Balls is unlikely to end up in education again I'd guess - he's too high ranking in the party now IMO.

 

The Tories quite frankly offer nothing for education but budget cuts and damaged futures - for both the pupils and the staff. We have always looked after our finances very well at this school, but we're running on reserves due to cuts.

 

Oh, also, just a word of warning to all - I believe there are some laws against publishing who anyone voted for (including yourself). News site comment sections are under strict moderation today, so I don't know how it would affect us here but its probably best if no-one posts who they voted for until after the polls close.

It's amazing how many traditional Labour voters say they're voting for UKIP on the one hand and Tory bashing on the other. Clueless.

IMHO, necessary cuts - if Labour had remained in, there wouldn't have been any cuts and no reserves to fall back on.

I thought it was just the news outlets that weren't allowed to? Also, if its illegal, then why do we always get mugged on the way in/out by party supporters asking who you voted for?

I would love to see two things:

 

For sheer comedy value alone, Farage as Dept PM for 2 weeks, just to hear him talk the way her does, but to the world on behalf of the country... not enough time to wreck thing but. Lol

 

Then in 5 years Boris Johnson for PM... what am amazing 5 years that will be after that, I'll be glued to the BBC Parliament channel 24/7 :D
