mikkydoos Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Hi all, Can anyone recommend a free (VNC or other) remote dekstop client for a Mac (Yosemite). Need to remote into a Mac from a Windows machine over a LAN. Or tell me how to use the Mac built in one with Windows RDP. Cheers in advance Edited March 9, 2015 by mikkydoos
Grey-gear Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I've used VNC to do this in the past, not sure of any others 1
unixman_again Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 +1 VNC - we use TightVNC but I don't think it matters too much. You could also use Teamviewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, LogMeIn etc, but these are probably overkill, unless you are outside of your LAN. 1
mikkydoos Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Which one m8? TightVNC? Can't seem to find it in the app store
mikkydoos Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Got it with Tight VNC. Cheers all.... sorted now
Norphy Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 OS X already has a VNC daemon baked into it. The only thing you need to do is enable it in System Preferences (Under sharing/screen sharing) and give it a password by clicking on Computer Settings and checking "VNC Viewers may control my screen with password" Once you've done that, any old VNC client should work. I use TightVNC cos that's what came with my Mac management software. 1
kcalderw Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 What about the reverse? I have about 6 PCs I would like the ability to remote into from my Mac for troubleshooting.
Huddlestone92 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 +1 VNC @Stryker412 Microsoft RDP does the job just fine for myself > https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
unixman_again Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 What about the reverse? I have about 6 PCs I would like the ability to remote into from my Mac for troubleshooting. Download Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center
Arthur Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Download Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center The latest version of Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client is in the Mac App Store. v2.1.1 is ancient! https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/id715768417?mt=12 CoRD and Royal TSX are also worth checking out. 1
Norphy Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 As arthur says, avoid the version on Mactopia! It isn't supported on anything newer than snow leopard, it doesn't support rdp gateways and it had an annoying habit of crashing with modern versions of Windows. The current client on the Mac app store is the Microsoft version of iTap and it works extremely well. No other mac rdp client that I know of supports rdp gateways
Arthur Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 No other mac rdp client that I know of supports rdp gateways Royal TSX does according to their website.
kcalderw Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Sorry for the late response, I do have MS RDP however the problem with all versions of RDP is I then have to login as a different user. I can't share their screen if they're trying to show me something.
