Garacesh Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) I'm assuming POS is Player-owned Station? (Even though I subconsciously read Point of Sale or Piece of...) Edit: EDIT: Well that was disappointing, I made it home without even meeting another player.. I had a 2m (with fittings) Condor that I was willing to sacrifice. At least I can say I've been to Null Sec. Well that's a good place to start! Now, if you really want to kick-start 'being okay with losing ships'.. Go back into nullsec, only this time, go lookin' for a fight! Start one if you have to. Get rekt. Laugh. Edited June 2, 2015 by Garacesh
localzuk Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Yup, POS = Player Owned Station. I was terrified the first time I logged off inside the bubble of my corp's first POS. Lol
Arreks Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm assuming POS is Player-owned Station? (Even though I subconsciously read Point of Sale or Piece of...) Close, Player-Owned-Starbase. A starbase is a tower or collection of structures, you can't dock in them. There are also outposts which are player/corp-owned stations which you can dock in, however they can't be deployed in wormhole space. My plan is basically this, me and my friend will set up a corp and deploy a POS with a hangar, maintenance array and probably some research post - I'll get maybe a week or two worth of fuel and then use my main and alts planetary skills to set up a whole bunch of PI for some minor passive income. My friend and I in our beefed up battlecruisers will also go do sites to get more money (then switching to my Stratios for data/relics and my indy alt for mining at the sites).
localzuk Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Huh! I'd never heard one referred to as a Starbase before! My alliance must've been odd, lol. :/
Arreks Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Huh! I'd never heard one referred to as a Starbase before! My alliance must've been odd, lol. :/ I think I'm probably just fussy with terminology, if you said a player owned station to someone they'd obviously know what you meant lol.
Garacesh Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Ah, when I played 8 years ago Starbases weren't a thing.. Outposts were, though. I just forgot the terminologies
LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The sad thing is, I went in LOOKING to fight... I had a Webber, Warp Disruptor and everything. But alas, I flew around in Null Sec for almost an hour and found nobody

But alas, I flew around in Null Sec for almost an hour and found nobody Null sec is mostly empty with people clustering in small areas, I believe it's even more clustered than previously due to changes in how various jump drives and stuff worked.

The Webbi makes it easier to target them, I suppose, whilst making you harder to target, but if they're going to flee they're likely to warp out (which the WD stops) so you can use the Webbi slot for extra shields or something. Also, do you know about the spiral approach, right? How to get in range of the bigger ships before they kasplat you into cosmic dust?

It's useful for range control, some ships could be faster than you and therefore burn out of range of your warp disruptor/scrambler or weapons. It's also useful on some fits for keeping you outside of their weapon range, particularly if they are using blasters.
localzuk Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Web also reduces their speed making it easier for you to hit them, as they move slower, making it easier for you to maintain a specific/optimal distance to hit them with your weapons. It also makes it easier to actually hit them, as the enemy transversal velocity is reduced.
LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Nope, my plan was just suicide burn towards them at 1km/s, WD + webbi and orbit at 18km and fire my angry sticks at them.
Garacesh Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Yeah, I don't remember the specifics, but I remember weapon optimal range is only part of it.. how quickly the enemy ship is moving across your field of view also makes it harder to hit, so if you webbi it you're moving across its field rather quickly, but it's barely moving across yours. I guess it makes sense to keep one of each. But you're goosed if you find someone with a warp core stabiliser Nope, my plan was just suicide burn towards them at 1km/s, WD + webbi and orbit at 18km and fire my angry sticks at them. Look up the spiral approach method, else you won't get within 50 clicks of them before your ship experiences a rapid, unscheduled disassembly. Kamikaze charging towards them makes you incredibly easy to target and one well-placed laser will relieve you of your ship faster than I can finish this sentence. Edited June 2, 2015 by Garacesh

Warp core stabilisers have a high impact on your lock range and, as they take a low slot, either your dps or tank (depending on if your armour fit or not).
LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) I've read it up, seems simple enough Besides, if anyone kills me: A) I get to experience death B) I can run crying to others and pay them to kill my assailant Edited June 2, 2015 by LiamHaith

You find a target mining an asteroid, it's probably safe to blitz straight at them. If it's a ship decked with guns, maybe not so much. Then they better warp away before I engage them or they will probably lose. Warp core stabilisers have a high impact on your lock range and, as they take a low slot, either your dps or tank (depending on if your armour fit or not). Isn't that the point of core stabilisers? You warp out rather than engage? I expect mining vessels would equip them. Edited June 2, 2015 by Garacesh
halbaradkenafin Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 It's that the point of core stabilisers? You warp out rather than engage? I expect mining vessels would equip them. I've seen people fit them on combat ships with the reason "if it starts to go wrong then I can warp off" but that falls apart when the enemy has a warp scrambler (you'd need 2 warp core stabilisers) or you are in a smaller ship than the attacker and find yourself dying faster than you can get away. In high sec most miners won't bother with them as suicide ganking is over before the barge can warp out, and low sec you'll likely face warp scrams. In Null Sec you've usually got Intel channels and pvp ships around for protection.
LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 All this talk of Eve, would anyone want to get online Today/Tonight and run a little fleet of something? Personally I have a Venture (for mining) a Wreathe (for Cargo-ing? Though I'm not sure what I would carry) and a fair arsenal of combat ships including my Condor (which was made with the idea of tackling enemies). Could be interesting to have a little fleet running Ops together. Maybe even some form of VOIP.
LiamH Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I think you flew off to Geminate if i recall correctly. The AD-/EOA- pocket? Garacesh been watching the butterfly effect trailer? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq2oxt7Nrxo
LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I think you flew off to Geminate if i recall correctly. The AD-/EOA- pocket? Yeah, I found my way home safely too! Was kinda nervous about losing my 1.3m T2 Warp Disruptor

Valid points. Though I thought 1 WCS mitigated 1 WS? So if they used 1 WS you could still warp off if you had 1 WCS, and if they used two (say, two ships engaging you) you'd need 2 WCS to warp out? LiamHaith Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 GAAHH why must you taunt the poor graphics-card-less Garacesh? ;_; Depending how much shipping would be I'm sure I have some relatively useless 7750 lying around if you require just any ol' GPU.
Garacesh Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 I'm using a Radeon.. 6.. something. 6600? Something like that? It's.. ah.. Not very good. xD I'm crying inside waiting for the EVGA 980ti Hybrid to be released. Looking like it'll be out in about a month.
