It involves factory resetting the box (which you can do whilst saving any recordings that you want to keep). I've had to do that once and it cured the problem. PM me if you want the full instructions. i did it worked for a bit then went again it then just flat out refused to record certain programmes you could watch them and it showed as recording if you were in it just diddnt do owt. my old humax freeview box diddnt miss a beat in years. even this new box if its not in max power saving after a week locks up
rad Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I have a Humax 320Gb and that stores loads of TV programs. Its great for keeping copies of films etc that arent available on iPlayer.

They cost £20 from sky, this is what I have done in my bedroom, lets me record the same as if I paid for it, but can only watch the free channels. Steve You can RECORD from freeview?? I know you can watch freeview content without a Sky contract with Sky equipment... I've done a quick search and not found anything which supports your statement here. Personally I ditched Sky for an £80 500Gb Humax box which has served me well for 2 years. Programmable over the web if you can be bothered to set that up. Otherwise it's a solid recorder. Not quite up with the ease of use of the Sky interface but works fine. Paid for itself in 4 months (my Sky contract was basic £20pm).

I'd read a lot that you can't as well, and to be honest wasn't expecting to be able to, but it definitely works on my box! I do still have an active sky subscription in the lounge, but can't see that this would affect it, it's a freeview card in the bedroom, not a multi room subscription. Steve

The scheduling works and can be programmed a lot easier than through the native TV menu ...and works over the web of course. I was disappointed that the Humax won't play any media files, just it's default, hence the need for the converters. I converted one movie and gave it up as a bad job opting to connect my laptop directly to the TV to cut out the hassle.

Steve I think it must be your active subscription skewing it. I don't understand why you'd spend £20 on a freeview card though when your regular Sky card will turn into a fully working freeview card when you end your contract. That's how my wife's works.

I have an old Duoviso PVR-9200T freeview recorder and its still going strong. the first gen single tuner humax pvr i bought over 10 years ago still works gave it to my uncle years ago when i decided to replace it with windows media center. Dads had a 9200 i beleive that croaked after many years and replaced with a newer one (iirc the last non hd one) and ive got a humax i had before the youview box (which is a humax but youview software) that i shoved a 2tb disk in and bar one i think the 9200 dying not had an issue with the non youview ones

Big difference between freesat and freeview is the ariel/statalight dish .

FreesatfromSky (what your subscription card reverts to when you cancel your subs) is a con - it gives you about 5 extra (fairly minor) channels and no recording unless you pay a tenner a month to have the record functionality turned on. And you still have all the now useless pay channels cluttering up your epg.
sted Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 freeview free digital through an aerial freeview+ as above with a recorder youview as above BUT if youre with a supported isp (talk talk/bt) you can get extra channels (discovery\comedy central\national geographic\various kids channels\bt sport) delivered to the box over t'internet but its basically a freeview box with some bells and whistles freesat free digital through a satellite dish freesat+ as above but with a recorder there is talk of another based on freeview system as certain youview partners are unhappy with the way bt/talk talk are taking the platform 1

I can barely see any difference between them to be honest, aside from harddrive size. Humax's website doesn't offer a comparison tool which would be really handy. Does anyone know of the pro's / con's of any of them? Kind of between HB-1000s or HDR1000s but to be fair, that's simply because they are the two I click on first!!
