RobFuller Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Don't remember is saying that before, must be a recent change perhaps? My installs inherit their settings from there server tab perfectly fine.
pete Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) I just got a "hey we no longer support managing the config on servers unless you're paying us" notification when I logged into the console just now. Edited August 1, 2016 by pete
pantscat Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 If you're stuck for free antivirus for servers - check out Comodo One - I'm currently reviewing it as an RMM platform and it has it's own av product. Although the whole suite is somewhat in its infancy, it shows promise for device monitoring and management.

I've just got the message though I can still see and apply settings for the clients on my servers......?
techie08 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 This Sucks!!! i was hoping to roll this out to another school. Looks like i'm going back to Sophos then!

Is it something that can be deployed to other servers, or does it entail the whole package on each server? This Sucks!!! i was hoping to roll this out to another school. Looks like i'm going back to Sophos then! I know! Guess they have to make money somehow, but if you can't protect your servers with their free offering, chances are people will go for a different product - possibly site wide.

Is it something that can be deployed to other servers, or does it entail the whole package on each server? It's quite well hidden, isn't it? I think you need to deploy it alongside the RMM agent, but that's about it - nothing else AFAIK. 1
pete Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) Has anyone else experienced the proxy config being reset to 127.0.0.1:8080 by the Avast WebUI? Looking through the configs, the "Default" config is correct, but the customised ones we're actually using have been reset. I have a ticket open (#106176). Oh, and support chat is a premium feature now.......but they haven't announced that anywhere, hence the Avast support person being put on the spot. Edited September 16, 2016 by pete
TwistedHelixis Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Has anyone else experienced the proxy config being reset to 127.0.0.1:8080 by the Avast WebUI? I have not noticed this issue at any of my schools.
TwistedHelixis Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 ^ Although I do remember having the same issue if I created an installed without the proxy settings but added them in later, Avast would run fine until the next update.
pete Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) ^Yeah, I've seen that. This is "someone or something reset/changed the config in the Avast console". I could understand a typo'd version of what the proxy config should be, but resetting two separate settings templates to 127.0.0.1:8080 is something else. The workstation and the server proxy config on both templates were modified. Edited September 19, 2016 by pete
SpaceInvader83 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 What are people doing with regards to AV on servers since the recent changes with Avast? I would have considered upgrading to premium for just the servers but this is an all or nothing subscription at the moment so it would mean we paid for premium for every single device.
pete Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 ^ Searching through the Avast forums (Avast for Business subforum) reveals that if you already have servers on it, you're grandfathered into support for servers (for current and any new server devices you add). There's an Avast employee posting a "oops, we didn't mean to break that" in a thread where someone is asking about it. I get the impression Avast as a company are rather terrible at communicating information about changes. 1
SpaceInvader83 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Well I never! bossman Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Had this happen to me and so I revamped my templates and did a complete re-installation across site using a PDQ Deploy package I built. Been working fine but unfortunately doesn't stop the latest version of ransomeware as we found to our dismay Monday afternoon when one of our darling members of teaching staff unwittingly clicked on a dodgy e-mail link, as we have just migrated from our old platform to a new virtual 2012r2 with our curriculum servers we didn't have all the permissions set as we had on the last network due to workload!!! Managed to stop it in its track by eradicating the source machine and shutting down all the servers bar one of our DC's. Cleaned up any files which had been encrypted................250,000!!! Ran Malwarebyte's pro over the servers and then over workstations in groups everything was clean, rebuilt the offending machine and then proceeded to replace 2/3rds of the affected files. 12.5 hours later after working through the night with one of my technicians we finally finished at 5am the following morning, went home, grabbed food and 2 hours kip and back in to work for 8:30 with staff non the wiser except for the guilty member of staff. All Staff have been made aware and seem to be very thankful for the effort. We have now been clean for 3 days and counting! Just a heads up
TwistedHelixis Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Does anyone know how to stop the Avast chrome plugin from installing or even advertising itself, I assume it's coming from the Avast for Business settings but cant find how I turn this off. Thanks
Ashfold Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I have recently replaced a number of PCs around the site without first removing the Avast software and I now can not remove them from the dashboard. I can remove and uninstall but this is not completing probably because the PC is now somewhere in a WEEE recycling centre, has anyone got a method of removing these PC?

I thought they eventually disappear from the console? Will try to check in a couple of hours at my next site.
LeMarchand Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 They seem to disappear from the "all statuses"list but not the total count. You can go to "Uninstall Pending" and deleting them from there seems to do the trick. 2
Ashfold Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Thank you this works perfectly. I do like Avast free but I do find it a bit clunky.
LeMarchand Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Well our McAfee renewal is due and I'd be quite happy to go with Avast apart from the question mark over server protection. Has anyone resolved this? Or what else are people using for their servers?
localzuk Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 We're about 50% through moving our clients from SCEP to Avast Free here. However, it is likely we'll move to the premium offering for them all anyway - the pricing on it is pretty good. 3 years covering all our devices, including servers, trust wide (650 devices), comes to £3500ish. 2

Cheers. Our McAfee offer is around £2/device/year (3 years payable up front) which seems to be much lower than before (and possibly lower than paying for "server only" protection) but I'd rather pay nothing! Update: D'oh! Could just cover the servers - job jobbed! Edited November 1, 2016 by LeMarchand
localzuk Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 They don't let you pay for just server licenses as far as I know - you have to license it all instead.
