Your PRS or equivalent license covers you for playing a song or film so you can not be pursued for copy write violation. The TOS for the streaming site however does not allow you to use it in a school so they can come after you for the TOS violation. I know that in the USA this can be a felony but I am not sure where it falls in UK law but do you want to be the IT tech who got their school sued or worse? The reason Netflix et al who be upset about you showing a film in school from their service is that they are not licensed for this and could loose their licenses if the film studio or distributor determined that they where breaching their contract.

I have been trying to set up a webproxy today with AD authentication and I am having problems with kerberos I have used the script here https://technet.microsoft.com/library/ee176972.aspx to look at the SPNs CN=Squid OU= DC= DC= class: user user logon: Squid -- HTTP/websafety60 -- HTTP/websafety52 -- HTTP/websafety52.. Is this an issue or are they ok linked to the one user I am only using websafety60, I set up websafety52 earlier today but I had different problems and was told to use the latest version (I am labeling the proxies with the version hence the numbers at the end of the machine names) If I run setspn /x is in not reporting any duplicate SPNs If I run setspn /d HTTP/websafety52 or setspn /d HTTP/websafety52.. it reports working and object updated but the output from the .vbs does not change. Can anyone shed some light on kerberos I am pulling my hair out M

We start lessons in the Computing room at year one where the whole class use a generic account which is class name for the username and a simple numeric password, this gives the idea of usernames, passwords Ctrl, Alt, Del and the log on process. It usually takes a couple of 30 minute lessons to get most of the pupils logged on by themselves. In year two each child gets a unique username and password in the form of cohort surname initial ie 20bloggsf and a password from dinopass. We give them each a logon card with this written on in the first week and it usually takes a couple of 30 minute lessons to get most of the pupils logged on by themselves. We sometimes get pupils who insist they are entering their credentials correctly but cant log on and yesterday I had a group who all seemed to have forgotten how to do a three fingered salute, but on the whole this is a fairly painless process. We have some pupils who require extra help with the process but this is the same ratio as the pupils who require extra help elsewhere. Pupils with super long, complex, difficult to spell or double barrelled names get shortened all doubled barrelled names get hyphenated or have the spaces stripped out in school to avoid spaces in usernames as part of the username policy, email addresses use the same username ie 20bloggsf@ unless I have simplified the surname when they will have both the simplified email address and to the full surname ie 20bloggs-jones-smithf@ aliased to the same account. When the pupils move up to year three and year six I reset their passwords on mass but otherwise we try not to change password unless they have been compromised. Generally this works well some parents dont like the shortened names some pupils cant type their passwords consistently but some of our adult staff dont like their surnames being hyphenated or losing the spaces and I reset a staff password about once a month so the year ones and twos are no more of a technician load than any other age group.

This is always an important question, are photos considered personally identifiable information by them selves? I recognise that there are safeguarding considerations for pictures but as a data protection question are photos more of a risk than the class register, being as one is a list of names with no other context and one is a lot of pictures with no other context? Again I recognise that uniforms and logos are identifiable but they are visible on some lists and if you see the group before stealing the list. Continuing on this stream of thought would we have to securely dispose of and disclose a breach if one is misplaced?

We have ours on 6 but i have also used the "Apply sensitive word list" option in advanced which I found helpful in reducing spam and I have blocked some countries and languages. I also block some file types but not for spam reasons.

One disk failing is very rare however when you rebuild an array you have to read every byte of parity on the drives to recreate the new drive and if you get one read error the RAID will fail. These errors have occurred whilst you have been using the array but it has been caught at a higher level or only affected one file and has been dismissed by the user or yourself however, during rebuild there is no higher level error correction and the rebuild fails. If you are happy to recover from back up and eat the down time use JBOD it gives you more storage if you don't want the downtime use RAID 6 or 10. There are loads of links explaining the maths but basically if the array is made up of disks bigger than 2TB or more than 7 disks you are likely to have the rebuild fall over. RAID 6 is going the same way because we are building bigger and bigger arrays but the unrecoverable read error rate (URE) of disks is staying the same at between 10^14 10^16 reads so in 2020 we should be using RAID 10 or a new triple parity RAID.

Sorry for replying to my own post. I just did this again with the system restore partition as disk the first hard disk on IDE 0 and the system disk as the second disk on IDE 0 and after this error Hyper-V virtual machine may not start, and you receive a “‘General access denied error’ (0x80070005)” error message which I fixed by giving the VM access to the disk following these instructions it worked. I am going to attribute this to the power of Edugeek.

Hi Can someone help me with a P2V issue I am having? I am using Disk2vhd v2.01 to virtualise a 2008 server following the instructions from Veeam and when I covert my c drive and system reserved partition it creates 2 vhds. when adding these to a new virtual machine in Hyper-V on my 2012 r2 hosts the new VM will not boot, I assume this is because the 2 disks need to be on one disk. I have trawled the internet and all the instructions skip over this so I assume I am doing something fundamentally wrong but I can work out what. Thanks in Advance Mike

Yes we still have these issues especially with infant software that runs full screen and then cant be dragged to the other screen, as far as interactivity goes we have some staff who are brilliant and others who would be better off with a dumb display but it is working out where to put them.

We do exactly this, one out put to the teachers screen (private screen) and one split to a second Monitor and the IWB/Clevertouch (public screen). I originally just did the private screen and the iwb/cleavertouch for the public but the staff could not get the hand of moving windows between the screen on the desk and the screen on the wall or totally lost program windows because they had not turned the projector on but with the three display set up they love it and even the most nontechnical teacher can use it in seconds.

I administer twelve forms from year 3 to year 8 sitting CAT tests and fourteen forms the previous twelve plus two year 2 forms sitting an online reading test each year. We run these in our ICT rooms one class at a time for two weeks, I set up each PC manually before the first test checking sound etc and then I use Impero to remotely log on the computers to special testing user account. I rearly have to adjust sound etc after the first exam normally a year 8 group who I use to set volumes to a reasonable level. With the younger pupils I will log each PC on to the child's test but with years 6,7,&8 I just use impero to open the web site and then talk them through the logon process. I rarely have any technical problems other than one exam today when our ISPs DNS servers stopped working and we no Internet for a quarter of an hour as I wanted to start the test so I had to reschedule. The teaching staff individuate and I leave them to it, over the last five years doing several different online test I have never had a serious problem other than the odd kid closing the browser or clicking back or the like but I just make them resit during on of the timetabled resits and give them a quick I told you not to do that if they are old enough. To be honest it is probably the easiest two weeks of term with the ICT room off timetable and the test being so closely controlled.

Thank you this works perfectly. I do like Avast free but I do find it a bit clunky.

I have recently replaced a number of PCs around the site without first removing the Avast software and I now can not remove them from the dashboard. I can remove and uninstall but this is not completing probably because the PC is now somewhere in a WEEE recycling centre, has anyone got a method of removing these PC?
