LeMarchand Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I did find this thread but the thought of editing the printer drivers was a bit scary, so in the hope that there's an easier way... Have recently set up "locked print" which should apply to all users. Set printing defaults on the server to Locked Print and a fake ID and this has (mainly) carried through to the workstations. The teachers should be able to follow the crib sheet I created (I say should...) to change to their credentials, but what we need is a way to set the credentials across the 100+ laptops the kids have access to. The engineers seemed to think that once a user had logged in and set credentials on one device, this would carry over to other devices; unfortunately this didn't work . I don't fancy logging on 7 times to each laptop to set printing credentials - surely there's an easier/better way?
smithson83 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) The school went down this route prior to my arrival, was a PITA, we had to modify the print driver, was the old way to do it. Otherwise it was a per user, per device setting. When our lease was up, we added SafeCom to our Ricoh MFP's (supplied and setup by Ricoh), this integrates into AD, and sits on top of the display on the printers. Much easier to manage, no driver modification required and everything is held on the print server until they "Pull" it to the they happen to arrive at. We have a Staff B&W (driver for Mono printer of same line) set as default, a Staff Colour, and a pupil Push printer (not held in a queue so don't need to set up 100's of Pupil ID's etc, not sure if you can assign multiple logins to a generic account) Edited January 16, 2015 by smithson83 1

witch Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 We have just got a Ricoh and the engineer came and installed a modified driver for us because of our specific requirements - not the installer guy, someone higher up. Could be worth at least a phone call to ask if it can/has been done 1

muppet Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 We had to edit ours (Ricoh MFD's) so that the user has to enter their name/initials, a release code and a department code to bill the job to. If you want a copy of the one I edited so that you can see what I have done just let me know. 1

I will give the engineer a call on Monday, though (might as well get our money's worth from the contract) but as he didn't mention anything like that I think I may also have to follow up with @witch's suggestion. It would be good to have something in hand should things not pan out. (I don't think the contract is direct with RICOH).
