Believe what makes you feel most comfortable, as long as you aren't messed up and trying to steal money from grieving people then it's fine.

^ Pretty much this.

With an added "don't claim it's a fact if you can't unequivocally prove it."

When I was quite a bit younger, my grandmother and I were talking about my (recently deceased at the time) grandfather - she was saying that he was still in the house keeping her company, at that moment a picture of my grandfather that was on the mantle fell over.

Really creeped me out at the time but my grandmother was fine with it, as if it happened to her all the time. I can't explain why it fell over or why it did so with such good timing.. but that ...

I bet it was the frame that slipped, no matter which photograph it held. It probrably fell over a lot when you grandfather wasn't mentioned, but never really noticed it. I'm also guessing that you talked about your grandfather a lot, which increased the 'sample size' of events during which the frame falling would be significant, and noticed the coincidence when the frame fell.

I'm not trying to single anythng out, but we are pattern-seeking mammals. We ignore the millions of events we witness that mean nothing to us, but sit up and notice the one or two events that coincide to which we ascribe a meaning.

A few years back we did a tour of Scotland for a week, up the east coast to visit ZeroHour in Aberdeen then up through the highlands and down again.

On our way back we spent our final night at New Lanark, an old mill factory/community with a fantastic series of waterfalls (the Clyde Falls) not far from it and we stayed in the hotel there which is located in one of the old mill buildings.

Because our kids were young (2 and 4 at the time) they had extra beds put in our room which was on the top floor in wing of the hotel. Between midnight and 1am both of our kids had climbed into bed with us (like they do in strange places) and after an uncomfortable few minutes my wife decided enough was enough and she'd sleep in one of the kids beds which was right along my side of the bed.

We were both wide awake at this point.

The very second she climbed in the bed my daughter had just vacated we heard a noise that seemed to be coming from everywhere.

The only way I can describe it was like a bird flapping its wings against the window (which was initially what I thought it was if a bird had decided to roost out there for the evening).

The noise then started to come from various places throughout the room. All the time my wife and I are looking at each other to check if we could both hear this. After a few minutes of this noise, a second noise started up as well.

This noise can only be described as someone dropping a full locker on the floor once every 30 or so seconds from the room next door. We could feel the vibrations from it in our room.

This carried on for a further 10 mins until we decided enough was enough (thinking that it was people in the room next door playing silly buggers) and my wife turned the bedside light on. It was like (literally) a switch being thrown to kill whatever had been making all of this racket. It stopped the instant the light came on.

As it was late we decided to mention it to the desk staff in the morning and went back to sleep. When we got up there was one of the hotel staff in the corridor who turned out to be the floor attendant and we mentioned the noisy neighbours last night. She actually looked a bit shocked and explained that there was only one other occupied room on our floor last night and they were at the other end of the corridor. She also told us that the hotel had a bit of a reputation amongst staff for strange goings on, but they don't make a big noise about it for fear of losing trade

To this day my wife and I still have no idea what went on there that evening, but something was in the room with us and making a noise. Even our kids woke up and heard it.

It only made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up the next day driving home when we discussed it at length.

We also had an experiance a couple of years after that which I won't post up here for various reasons. But I had experianced nothing before or after these two incidents. It certainly opened my eyes.

Wow.... that's.... something. Not sure what else to type other than that....

You don't want to put a camera up - fair enough - but you have a 16 camera CCTV system already installed. Unless you live in a massive mansion - surely one of these points in the general direction of one of these happenings and could provide some clue as to what actually happened?

Outdoor cameras.

Also, after reading all the comments, i'd like to say Thanks to those who shared, and nothing to those who proved less than helpful.

Once again, thank you to those who took the time out to type something constructive.

Personally it intrigues me, a lot. As said, I have absolutely no belief, but I love investigating "things that go bump in the night". Sometimes they can't be rationally explained, and that's what makes it ever so interesting. I'll often watch Most Haunted for that reason alone.

I think as others have said, for your own peace of mind it is easier to remain skeptical. I've had experiences I can't outright explain, but then again I can't outright explain why this MSI isn't deploying correctly either.. but I digress.

My grandmother had a similar thing happen, her and my granddad has those bedside lamps that you touch to turn on, after he died his bedside lamps would turn on and then after a few mins turn off when she got into bed.

It was probably just the bed moving/dodgy electrics but it made her feel better thinking that he was still around, so i was never skeptical about it to her.

Apparently Norton have a product that can help with ghosting...

HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE

Because it happened, it's spooky, and i'm not here to make movies, i'm here to try and get advice if possible, or see if anyone has had any similar experiences, as well as resolutions if any.

Honestly, as a sceptic, I thing video recording is the best way to go. Why? Because if/when something 2spooky4me occurs, you can give yourself time to calm down and then review the footage. You don't have to show us to 'prove yourself', but being able to think calmly and rationally whilst looking back at an objective view of what happened will give you a clearer sense of what's going on (and if you do capture a ghost you can be the first to stick your middle finger up at Science and declare BOOYAH! GHOSTS, MO'F......)

I haven't read everything properly, twice, everyway-upsidedown and all that, but I didn't see much mockery (maybe a little light friendly teasing). It would be naive to ask what people think and then only expect people to agree with your interpretation.

We saw it. Believe it or not. I no longer care about your opinion.

I think there are probably, perfectly mundane explanations. A fish slice is a good leaf spring, they can get caught in drawers, compressed and when released - which might be at random, they spring free - whooosh. A door handle could have been turned and a door opened - maybe you had an opportunist burglar or a friend or neighbour was playing tricks - perhaps one of the family inside the room was playing with fishing line trying to spook you out. Perhaps it was the one in a million time where, despite the surprising habit of always locking all the doors when there are people around, someone not only hadn't locked the door, they hadn't quite shut it either.

People are fallible, forgetful, easily fooled and as any decent lawyer will demonstrate day after day, unreliable witnesses. I would need to have an enormous amount of trust not only in you but in all those mentioned, to accept that they evade those characteristics day after day after day. And if they don't quite manage to do that, why wouldn't it be on that day that their perfect record of (say) always locking doors was broken?

I think it is a mistake to think that the people who start a thread have any special consideration in having it closed. If you don't want people to be able to comment on your experiences, thoughts and opinions etc, then don't post them in the first place. Once you do, unless the thread is really going off the rails (insult, invective, technical threads veering wildly off topic) , you have no special claim on it. Threads 'belong to' all of the contributors as much as any one of them, only your own posts belong to you.

Hi Sunnyknight, I empathise with you, my partner had the quilt forcibly removed from the bed, during the day whilst sleeping, (on night shift,) they also felt someone sitting on the end of the bed but they were alone in the house. I have also seen strange people in my room when abroad, in an old building, wearing 1930's attire and dancing to old music. Some things can't be brushed aside easily. Chin up, hopefully it was a one off as you have been in the building for several years.

I remember once when i was younger and saw ghostly like figures round my Nan & Grandads place, when I stayed overnight once. There house was used by the Home Guard in WW2. Creepy.

Many years ago I worked as a handyman at the field centre at Malham Tarn. One winters night the staff had been partying in the staffroom, (one of many such parties) and as the weather was bad I decided to kip on a sofa rather than walk the half mile back to my accommodation.

About 2am I was woken by the sounds of dishes rattling as though a loaded crockery trolley was being moved along the tiled corridors.... Now I admit it could have been an overactive imagination from the alcohol & as I wasnt in my own room but it made me uneasy. Nothing was stirring when I went downstairs but I was so unnerved I walked down to my own room in the pitch dark and bad weather :D

And I knew a bloke who ran a pub down in the Midlands - it was an old coaching inn & the bottle store was the stable area. He swore blind he used to find the empty bottles had been moved around overnight.

Do I believe, no not really - certainly my experience at the field centre can be explained away fairly easily in any number of ways

@Miscbrah's post reminded me of this truly chilling YouTube video I cam across a while back (it was reported in some NY newspaper or other):

Think this was staged. If you have a look at around 17 seconds to 25 you can blatantly see her moving and make out her face in the loft area. If he'd of put the lights on while setting up the camera like a normal person he too would have seen her.

That's because he cut out the two hours footage where she's not there ;)

Apparently, there's a deep crawl space up there that she had been hiding in, crawling out at night to help herself to food. The guy called the cops after he saw this footage and she was arrested. Apparently the cops told him it's not the first time they've seen such an incident (there is a relatively high number of homeless people in Manhattan)

EDIT: watched the bit you refer to (17-25 seconds) and I don't see anyone moving. The camera is moving, but I don't see anyone in that gap...

Look carefully at the top right hand corner and you'll see. To be more specific just above the area she climbs out of look like a dark black area.

No doubt this kind of stuff does happen in places although the fact he's an actor anyway and he didn't get the camera out and back up his claim the cops came around and arrested her seems a bit silly to me.

If I had a video worth 4,000,000 views the one thing you'd do is get footage of the cops taking her away to make another video to gain more views, it's common sense but he didn't hmmmm. Maybe because that is his girlfriend and they're trying to make an easy buck from youtube views as they live in a deprived area also?
