How are you getting to Bett '08

Would love 2 days in BETT but that won't work, so will be Leeds to London for me looking around £50 return at present.

 

Yep - I think I'm pretty lucky to get it I have to say.

I'll be getting the train, takes about 1hr 10 mins from where I live to victoria station, then the tube from there. Costs a rediculous £37 peek rate return thou, but still the cheapest and most convenient way to get there.

Train in the early hours of Tuesday (meetings at work on Monday including Governors' in the evening that I just *can't* get out of!) and then head back about 12 on Sunday ....

 

About an hour from St Pancras to Kettering ... and it'll be a taxi from the hotel to the station ... I will be using the underground the rest of the week (advice for people using public transport ... the Oyster Card is a blessing!)

Can't argue with the Oyster, I got one when I was down in summer as I love London nice place to go for good Theatre and its great, just whizz through no cash and ticket worries, just have mine on auto topup and its great saves loads of time and effort.

 

Wish I got all that time in BETT though You will be broke won't you by the end of the week Tony all that Theatre to go watch

Not doing a single show at the moment ...

 

On the Tuesday night you are too wired and worried that everything will be ok the next day.

 

On the Wednesday night you are fixing the things that were just not right during the day so the you make Thursday even better.

 

On Thursday night you go out for the meal with others from the stand as you know nothing can go wrong for Friday.

 

On Friday night you are too exhausted to do anything other than sit in the bar and rant about visitors and you are trying to scrounge tie-wraps so that nothing gets pinched the following day.

 

On Saturday you sleep ... even when your wife comes down and you go to a show ... you sleep ... even through the glorious opening strains of Innuendo!

I think I may have to see Wicked instead, I have done WWRY an awful lot this last 12 months due to it being the school show and I did work on that.

Gotta get bus from my house in Middleton at about half 5 to Manchester, then a train from Manchester Piccadilly at about half 6 to Euston- changin somewhere on the way - so hope to be there for about 10am on the 10th

Year before last I slept through Innuendo on the Saturday ... seriously ... and that was with travelling down each day.

 

On the Friday I also slept through the first 15 minutes of Fame

 

Last year, when I actually stayed over and most evenings were spent in my room either working remotely to the school (it was reports season but thankfully that is somebody else's problem this year :-D !) or getting things ready for the next day. The only break was our glorious lord and master (grovel, grovel) taking me and Ric_ out for a curry.

 

This year we have a few more things going on as well as my brother is likely to take me out for a meal too ...

 

And there is likely to be at least one night when some CertForum members are going to have a few beers with us as well.

Just got the request form back from the head to say I'm okay to go on the Wednesday. JCollings - I reckon your idea of a visit to the Comedy Store on the Wednesday evening is a good one, guess I'll see you there!

Just jump on the train they are so packed the conductors don't bother

 

Yeah, great idea if you like fines! Going into London, it certainly won't work at Euston, Kings Cross, Victoria, Paddington, Fenchurch Street and London Bridge because they have automatic barriers, and so probably do many others.

 

And if you get caught on the train, they'll charge you the full open single fare, so you could be looking at major money!

Me & bossman are now looking at getting a coach from Durham to London via National Express £56 return for both of us

 

Grrr... looks like we're going for Saturday now - both of us not allowed out on Friday

£56 is not bad for the bus. I think im paying £40 for a return flight tommorrow, but will be more by the time I pay for the standstead express and tube onto Olympia and back.

Take the Victoria Line from Euston to Victoria, then District Line to Earls Court, then District Line to Olympia (Olympia is a branch line off Earls Court, hence having to change).

 

Yes, need ticket for Zones 1 & 2 - about £4ish.

Hey, thanks for the info! Saves little old countryboy me getting lost and confused in the big shiny city and ending up gettting lost on that undergroundy thing!

Just a note RE the Earls Court switch, leave PLENTY of time as its a one in six shot that the tube goes to Olympia and the station is a BOMBSITE as its being knoced to bits and actually becomes prity much closed in about a week or so's time, so the platforms are tight, covered in scaffy etc.

 

My advice (I've been to BETT today as the guys on the stand will confirm and if you watched the webcam at the right time I was on it!) If when you get into Earls Court station, do rush to the stairs up to the platform especially if you can hear or spy a tube in the station RUN up the stairs and read the signs as that may be the last Olympia train you see for 15 minutes!
