How many of you do not use a Smartphone?

Just asking out of interest.

As people who work with technology, do many of you not use a smart phone? I don't, much to the amusement of my kids, I use a Nokia C3 as the battery lasts about 3 weeks. Even has the Nokia ringtone which causes some mirth when it rings when I am out.

its tempting but having a mobile ap (though since windows phone 8.1 update (what a backwards step in many ways) my surface pro refuses to use it as one) and email is handly though at times i tempted to get my old feature phone nokia out as that also dopes email and lasts more tahn 1 or 2 days without a charge

Well, I have a smart phone myself but the POS Nokia 300 they've given me at work is barely usable as a phone let alone smartly. Consequently I now carry two with me so I can actually do stuff and get work call

No I don't live that lifestyle, staff find it funny that I'm not obsessed with the latest phone or tablet. IMO you don't need to have 'nice and shiney' to be a geek.

I have an s4, it was the phone at the time (renewal in May), I'll stil get a smartphone, but i don't think i'll go as top of the range as i have before (s2 when it came out followed by s4). I'm thinking i'll buy a tablet for general use, and buy a mid-range smartphone (I'll still use it for things like FB, whatsapp etc when out and about)

Thanks all, this is interesting, people assume that as IT geeks, we have the latest technology. I was surprised that a few do not use mobile devices at all though, I do like to have one on me in case of emergency, not many phone boxes around anymore and I live in a rural location.

Out of curiosity, what would you do if you weren't at home (I take it you have a landline phone at home) and an accident or emergency occurred?

and in all the years youve carried a mobile how manyh times have you needed it for that for me once and if i haddnt had it on me it would of been an inconvinience not a major issue (was driving between schools and saw an old woman fallen over on side of the rioad so phoned for an ambulance but as it was a residential area i could of door knocked if needed and tehre were snough other people who did stop that had mobiles anyway)

I'd rather have the mobile for THAT one time. I have been involved in 2 major car crashes (where i could of come out a lot worse). So to me i'd rather, in today's society especially, have some form of mobile on my person. Edited November 28, 2014 by Tesla

Well obviously everyone's case may differ. I've had to use my mobile phone twice to call ambulances, one was a serious car accident with no payphones nearby (I don't think there are any payphones near me at all actually). Needless to say I'm not sure whether or not the people who were involved in the accident were even alright afterwards, but it definitely warranted me using my mobile phone. I would never be one of those people who assume that someone else will call the emergency services!

I have a smartphone but apart from a bit of web surfing and satnav I don't use any apps really. Email drives me nuts as I can't separate junk/freecycle/whatever emails and so I have to go through the lot.

I wouldn't be without it though - I did grow up before the era of mobiles but there were a lot more payphones around then and I wouldn't like to be stuck in a dodgy area at night without one. When I was younger there were definitely some dodgy situations that would have been much easier to cope with (and safer) had I had a mobile phone.

I also need one to speak to my children as they live on theirs and I get random texts at odd times of the day. In that respect modern parents are very lucky - I left home to go to college at just 18 and my poor mum had to wait until I could be bothered to call from the college payphones around once a week!

I guess I'll cross that bridge if it ever happens. Most people I speak to about mobile phones, say "I only use it in an emergency". Apparently phoning a loved one to say "I'm on the train" is an emergency.

Two doro mobiles, due to the size of my thumbs. I like the ratio of one button to one thumb, as opposed to nokia (2:1), iPhone (4:1), samsung on android (6:1), htc on android (8:1), blackberry (16:1) eugh… I miss my Ericsson (1:1)
