Simcfc73 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I recently updated the firmware on our system to 9.8.1.0 build 101... AVOID IT. After a power recycle both of my ZD's failed to boot but managed to get them up and running.... now one of them has done the same and it wont come back online even after a power reset. Connecting a serial cable to it comes back with garbage. None of the APs connected to it work now so I am screwed.....really wish I had gone with Meraki 1
Dkeen94 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Anychance you can throw it back to an old firmware version? I havent had much experience with ruckus but if you can gain console access can you restore it?
Simcfc73 Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 I did but it wasn't working. They are RMAing the unit and I have a temporary license so I can add all the other APs onto the working one. I really need to get a redundant unit.
Dkeen94 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Problem is i have heard alot from people with ruckus kit that they have bricked their devices because of firmware updates! It seems so finicky!
RobFrain Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 So glad I spotted this. I was going to do this today!!
Simcfc73 Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 Mine did work until a unexpected reboot then its bricked. The garbage coming out of the console is weird.
Bezwick Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Oh that was close was going to do ours after school this evening. Hmm, think I will leave it a while now too. Out of curiosity which ZoneDirector do you have? Edited November 19, 2014 by Bezwick

Sagima Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 My ZD1100 is running that one. No probs so far
Boredguy Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 There is a known issue with ZD1000's configured in smart redundancy mode... it's possible you found another one to add to the list
john Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I know it sounds obvious but did you read the release notes in full and follow the correct process to upgrade as I've seen that before where people go meh fixes a bug and just install and it can bugger things up which isn't the vendors fault if you don't read the guide in full.
snagrat Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Not had any issues here with going to 9.8.1 and done it on quite a few controllers. Assuming you have support you should get a replacement in 24 hours
Paid_Peanuts Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 We have a pair of ZD3050's configured in smart redundancy. Upgrade to latest firmware went well for us.
