We're not trying to put it on a domain and apply policies but it is nice to let the staff have a hands on look before it goes live. Normally they have to wait a couple of years before we change OS so it's nice to be ahead of the curve a little.

RowlandoGloom Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Our head of ICT teaching, saw us playing around with it our office this morning. She loved it (the Start Menu...) so much, it's now networked and on her staff PC in her classroom. Just for a bit of fun, she's tempted to have her whole ICT suite running it. God, She's mad! We've got RM CC4, modified the Smart Client's XML file to include 6.4 - surprisingly it built properly. Just a shame there was 120 packages declined! This was because the OS version obviously isn't in the package properties in the Management Console. Just created a new OU in AD, created a couple of new GPOs, added the machine to the same RM security groups and linked a few of RM's GPOs and it works like a charm. Packages have to be deployed via GP as MSIs, printers and drives via GPP - other than that, no prob.

william_tropico Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Right. It's now in the staff room and staff emailed about 'testing'. Our Sysprep for Windows 8.1 works on this so that's good. Applied all the GPOs without problems so glad about that I will keep you updated.

Domino Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I'd be concerned about an OS that's not getting security patches and with no supported av being live on the network myself...especially for the non technical. We've a couple of segregated vms for testing...so far, so meh.

I've found near-zero issues with software on W10. A few packages didn't deploy, and I think two of them didn't activate automatically, but aside from that it's ran fairly seamlessly. Notably Solus3 wouldn't deploy to the machine, but that doesn't surprise me. Office 2013 working flawlessly as expected, and 'big' packages like Adobe CS 5.5 and Solidworks also installed fine*.. One package complained about a sound issue but that might be because my VM has no speakers. Overall, pleasantly surprised. Still not brave enough to put it in a staff room, though! * Solidworks actually failed the first time, turns out it requires .Net Framework 2.0 to be turned on in 'Turn Windows Features On or Off'
