Beautifully designed and quite fun. I really liked it, but it may be too odd for everyone. I find it hard to believe that Sigourney Weaver is 76.

Mother's Pride (Cinema)

 

Some salty language in the trailer.

 

 

A washed up pop star returns to his home town to find his family's pub is in dire straits.

 

One of those cosy British comedic dramas along the lines of "Fishermen's Friends". It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't need to. Worth a look if you like that sort of movie.

Makes sense as it was written by the same people as Fisherman's!

 

Also saw in cinema, feel good British film with an obvious plot line but still enjoyable!

Well, a quick review. Not a bad job. The beginning is a bit rushed, and some of the headscratching science gets brushed over. Stratt isn't as driven.

Pressed the wrong button and rented this (was trying to use a voucher) but didn't end up regretting it, as it was surprisingly funny. It reminded me of early ZAZ movies like "Airplane" but sending up "Downton Abbey" and "Poirot" and not quite as non-stop on the gags.

I watched Sinners recently - magnificent movie. It was excellent before any of the horror kicked in and thoroughly enjoyable when it did too!
The other half was watching Stand By Me (one of her favourites but I've never watched) last night and I did the classic hover in a doorway for a while - will have to watch it properly because it looked excellent.

Been a bit too busy to post here, so another quick round up.

 

Project Hail Mary (Cinema)

Not read the book, but the film was an enjoyable couple of hours. Surprised it's doing so well as it's edging toward "hard" SF.

 

The Magic Faraway Tree (Cinema)

Another that I somehow haven't read the books for, which is probably just as well because we lived near a wood and I would have been spending my childhood searching for a magic faraway tree. Lovely movie aimed at the smaller ones though the bit with Moonface at the end caused my hayfever to flare up.

 

Sketch (Sky Movies)

 

A grieving family comes together when the disturbing drawings of the young daughter come to life and terrorise the town. Family comedy/horror that surprisingly fun.

 

Eat Pray Bark (Netflix)

 

A disparate and desperate group of dog owners sign up with a Celtic dog trainer in this German comedy that's a pleasant watch.

 

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice (Disney+)

 

A mobster travels back in time to correct some of the problems he has caused. Fairly amusing but ultimately forgettable.

 

F Valentine's Day (Prime Video)

 

Gina was born on Valentine's Day and hates it with a passion. When she thinks her boyfriend is going to propose on that day she decides that this cannot be allowed to happen. Fun romcom set mainly in Greece but with the location work done in Malta.

Made in Korea (Netflix)

 

Shenba, from a small Indian/Tamil town, has always dreamed of going to Korea but when she gets there things aren't quite as wonderful as she had hoped.

 

Netflix must have thought that they had found the perfect movie for us as we watch Indian movies and Korean TV shows. Unfortunately this was a kinda downbeat tale. It eventually livens up for a while and has a hopefulish ending but even that is tempered with sadness.

Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar (Prime Video)

 

Spun off very loosely from some stuff that did actually happen to Agatha Christie, this sees he solving a mystery at an archeological dig in Iraq.

 

Not awful, but it feels like someone came into some money and hired the local am dram group to tell their story. Not a a comment on the quality of the acting, more on the lack of familiar faces (though the other "Galavant" fan - there must be one other surely? - might recognise The King of Valencia.

 

Pretty Lethal (Prime Video)

 

Trailer NSFW: Violence, swearing, gore and LOUD

 

 

 

A ballet troupe finds that their skills may just get them out of the isolated inn full of violent criminals that they find themselves in.

 

The trailer is likely to provoke two reactions:

1. Looks absolutely ridiculous - why would i watch that sort of rubbish?
2. Looks absolutely ridiculous - could be a lot of fun.

If you're in the latter camp, it's a lot of fun.

Apex (Netflix)

 

A grieving widow (Charlize Theron) is trekking in an isolated Australian reserve and finds herself being hunted by a disturbed man. This wasn't on the watchlist as it sounded pretty cliched, but I heard so many recommendations that we gave it a go. It was cliched but also a surprisingly decent watch.

Watched Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice on Disney+ starring Vince Vaughn, had some decent moments in it and easy to watch so worth a go, I'd give it 5 banana's out of 8 (Ant and Dec Podcast for scoring reference).

The Rats: A Witcher Tale (Netflix)

 

Witcher sidequel about The Rats. Apart from bookends with Ciri being taken to wherever Leo Bonhart is taking her, this sees Bonhart tell the story of how Mistle joined the rats and the bounty hunter's first encounter with them (not sure how he knows so much about them, but hey ho). It mainly centres on a heist at a fight match where they recruit a washed up witcher (Dolph Lundgren) to defeat the monster guarding the treasure.

 

Much better than I was expecting as I wasn't a fan of the "Rats" bits in the main show. On their own they're a bit more tolerable. As Mme LeMarchand and I were wondering if there had been some recasting despite all the actors reprising their role, it shows how memorable the group are. We also forgot this was released and Netflix weren't exactly pushing it.

 

Does anyone know if The Rats came after The Crows from The Grishaverse or whether The Crows were a superior "homage"?
