MicraMan Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Watched Predator Badlands last night, first 5 mins you think "what am i watching" very slow start with a weird plot. However after that the film does increase in watchability and ends up being a really enjoyable film highly recommend...

LeMarchand Posted December 3, 2025 Author Posted December 3, 2025 Champagne Problems Netflix Eager to make her mark, a corporate takeover specialist who seems to think her firm always has its targets best interests in mind heads to France where she falls in love with the son of man whose champagne vineyard she has been sent to buy out. Rom with a side of com, the latter mainly provided by the supporting cast. I only recently realised that star Minka Kelly was in "Almost Human" and "Detroit: Become Human". No androids in this, though. A slight step up from a Hallmark movie. Best bit is in the trailer: "Oh, you and your family watch Die Hard at Christmas too?" (To stereotypical German man) "Yes, but in Germany it's considered a tragedy. Poor Hans Gruber! Deeply misunderstood." From a "Die Hard" from a "Pitch Perfect" alumni (Flula Borg) to a "Die Hard" style action comedy with two more. Bride Hard Prime Video Action comedy with Rebel Wilson as an agent who has to save the day when her bbf's (Anna Camp) wedding is crashed by armed bad guys. Pleasant enough time-passer but I'm not desperate for Bride Hard 2.

However the miltary need her help with a secret they have been hiding since before WW"... Fun sequel to the original and well worth a look if you enjoyed that one. It's less "Godzilla with Trolls" than the trailer suggests. Frankenstein (Netflix) Guillermo del Toro's version adds daddy and some rather creepy mummy issues into the mix but is a handsomely mounted production. I admired rather than loved it.

(Included with Prime) Michelle Pfeiffer as Claire Clauster, her husband (Denis Leary) and adult children (played by Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Dominic Sessa) are together in the build-up to Christmas. Claire's strenuous efforts to prepare for Christmas are not appreciated (or noticed?) by her nearest and dearest. Adding to the "manic energy", she is trying to outdo her overly competitive neighbour. I hadn't expected much (5Foot2 wanted to watch it) I wasn't wrong in my expectation, and I would not watch it again.

I guess I should have realised it was going to be, but the trailer disguises this is a full on musical. Let's just say I'm not adding any of the brothers songs to my Spotify! This features loads of the brothers' families (plus Will Ferrell and his family) and Chloe Bennet from S.H.I.E.L.D. Tolerably amusing. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (Netflix) aka सन्नी संस्कारी की तुलसी कुमारी aka Sunny Sanskari's Tulsi Kumari Sunny has planned an elaborate proposal that sees him getting dumped by Ananya (Sanya Malhotra from Jawan) for Vikram. Tulsi has been with Vikram for years, but is dumped in favour of Ananya, so Sunny and Tulsi decided to crash Vikram and Ananya's wedding to get their true loves back. As I'm not overly familiar with Indian Romcoms I wasn't sure that this would follow the traditional template which made the ending a surprise rollercoaster. Quite fun, though you probably need a passing familiarity with Indian movies/stars to get some of the jokes. BTW, we think we're underpaid: 50k rupees/month is around £400 so Tulsi's teacher's salary at what appears to be a large prestigious school is around £200. Edited December 22, 2025 by LeMarchand

We thought we had a free rental via O2/Blue Monday and chose this only to discover that the allowed rentals are very limited. Didn't regret the £5 but wouldn't rave about it. Guns Up (Prime Video) Kevin James plays a cop who decides to start working for the mob to provide for his family until they can buy their own diner. When that time comes the new boss doesn't want to let him go and so gunplay ensues. Not as light-hearted as the trailer makes out but an OK 90 minutes.

Kate Winslet's directorial debut from a script by her son, which sounds like a recipe for disaster but turns out pretty well. One to admire more than enjoy, though. Oh. What. Fun. (Prime Video) Michelle Pfeiffer's unappreciated mum decides she's had enough. Not as comedic as the trailer suggests. Kinda OK, but feels like it needed a couple more passes at the script to punch up the gags. Not sure why Michelle P put on an accent, but it was a bit distracting.

Except Ayesha is only 26. Ashish wants to take their relationship to the next level and introduce Ayesha to his family in India, but when they arrive there complications lead to him introducing her as his secretary while, as his daughter has told her fiancé that her father has died, he has to pose as his ex's brother. The sequel to this has surfaced on Netflix so I thought I'd catch up on this one. It's quite amusing, but it's hard to see why Ayesha falls so hard for Ashish (she's not after the money) and she also comes over as somewhat vain (she's always proclaiming - truthfully - how hot she is).
LeMarchand Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Red Sonja (2025) (Prime Video) Trailer a bit NSFW Orphaned when raiders destroy her village, a young girl survives alone in the forest to somehow become a fearsome fighter with her knifes. When she is captured by the evil emperor's forces and forced into life as a gladiator she instantly picks up sword fighting and becomes the leader of a nascent rebellion. This one is a bit like a better quality Uwe Boll movie: Not great but with an attractive female lead (here Matilda Lutz with a strange accent that occasionally goes Oirish) and some cast members that you wonder how desperate for cash they are. However, I went in with very low expectations and was surprisingly entertained. I'm not gagging for a sequel but I'd probably watch one.

Fun but forgettable with a worryingly high amount of "civilians" caught in the crossfire.
DalekSec Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Bruce Springsteen - Road to nowhere. (Disney+) As a big The Boss fan been waiting to watch this, and was somewhat let down. As good of a film as it is, its not what i expected, i thought it was in the same vain as other biopics, raise to fame etc. It's not, its about his Nebraska album and mental health, which is still a great story but from my point of few would of preferred the rise to fame aspect! Much prefer the 'Blinded by the light' film

LeMarchand Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Shelter (Cinema) Jason Statham plays an ex-MI6 assassin type hiding out on a Hebridean island. When he rescues a young girl he is picked up by the government's secret super surveillance system and has to fend off waves of people sent to kill him in an effort to get the girl to safety. OKish action movie, but possibly the greyest film I've ever seen. Another where lots of "innocents" get caught in the crossfire - you could even argue that most of those sent to capture JS are merely following reasonable orders -though towards the end he goes a bit T2 and shoots a lot of the not-as-bad faction of MI6 agents in the leg. Also the supercomputer that can do a retinal scan of our hero in the background of a social media post fails to spot him driving from Scotland to a club in London in a stolen car.

When he decides to swap gig economy worker's life with that of a tech bro things don't go according to plan... Funny comedy with a good social commentary. I liked it a lot.
