I'm not really a film-person (unless it's an easy to follow modern comedy) but I stayed awake for the whole thing (new record for me!) and found it really interesting. I've now got more questions than answers, but it's a film that is 100% open to interpretation. Don't go and watch it to try to 'get it'. Really good film and thoroughly recommended.

Edit: Although if you're into so-bad-it's-good-on-purpose comedy, I'd recommend you check out Black Dynamite or this NSFW-titled film. bossman Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) "The American Sniper" another American plot in Iraq, strong and powerful it delivers different points of emotional views. Central character Bradley Cooper (Chris Kyle) is very convincing in the role and is supported well by Sienna Miller (Wife). As for his Navy SEAL chums and his brother these are just bit parts played well by the actors and this enhances the overall theatre of the film. Well directed by Clint Eastwood, another convincing film about a true redneck American soldier doing his best at a difficult time, I do feel the character was softened in the film as to the real man himself who according to reports was a cold killer with very little emotion. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and would highly recommend Will be watching "Birdman" tonight with @webman Edited January 8, 2015 by bossman

I keep reading that as you having suffered from Whiplash from seeing the film because it's so intense! Saw Taken 3 (not worth a cinema trip) and Mme LeMarchand wanted to watch A Royal Christmas. Jane Seymour still looks very well preserved.

Along with Spiders (2000) - though that's mainly because it's got the lovely Lana Parrilla (Regina in Once Upon A Time) in it. IRL, I really don't like spiders.

I (whispers) actually quite enjoy the odd musical + have a strong interest in new spins on Fairy Tales, so was looking forward to this. Unfortunately, while it's an interesting spin on the old tales, the songs are dire - and there only seems to be two or three that are repeated with slight changes through the film. Apparently some have been cut from the stage show - maybe they managed to sound different? Anyway, unless you like the kind of musical where the vocals are done in that "each character sings a couple of lines of the song" Broadway style stay well clear.

Fun, but nothing to write home about. Disappointingly, the face pulled at the end of the trailer isn't in the film!

The action was good, if that's your thing, but if you stray into the politics (which the film does, and paints with bold primary colours), I pretty much agree with this view of the film. “American Sniper’s” biggest lie: Clint Eastwood has a delusional Fox News problem - Salon.com HBO's 'Generation Kill' is much better viewing (IMHO). Trance - tricksy thriller hampered by unsympathetic characters. Amazon pilot: The Man in the High Castle - what if WW2 had gone the other way - or did it? Plays more like alt. history, though apparently the (Philip K Dick) novel is more concerned with the nature of reality. Slow and somewhat uninvolving. Cinema: Kingsman: The Secret Service - Roger Moore's Bond meets My Fair Lady. Most amusing film of the year to date.

Imagine Dune with much more action and a few battles in space gene spliced with a touch of Flash Gordon, and you have this film. Fun, and gains points for not being an adaptation/reboot etc (though it does feel like it's been adapted from a much longer novel) but loses them for much of the action being hard to make out. Maybe I'm getting too old to follow all this fast-moving aerial dogfight malarkey, but the production design was lovely - would have been nice to see more of the ships.
