mrbios Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) A bit of a silly one this, a debate between me and a friend as to the correct (lets be honest, both work fine, he's just fussy and web fingered) way to hold the mouse... It seems my friend considers me to be somewhat strange because i use my index finger for left click and middle finger for right click, and i move either finger to scroll as i like to use the 4th finger to support the mouse in movement (i don't trust the pinky to get the job done). He says that's odd and that your middle finger should be reserved for the scroll wheel, left click index finger and right click with your 4th finger. Which way do you use? plexer Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Left click middle finger and right click index finger. Ben
fairm010 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Index finger left click, middle finger right click and normally index to scroll.
unixman_again Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I use a trackball, there-by avoiding the problem
howartp Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (Dad uses index finger for everything - left, right, scroll and one-finger typing!)
6Foot2 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Left click: Index finger Right click: Middle finger Scroll wheel: Index finger
WithoutMotive Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 A member of staff at work holds his mouse in a weird way using his THUMB to left click and index finger to right click.
DMcGuigan Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Index - Left Click Middle - Scroll / Right Click Thumb - Forwards, Backwards, Precision and Side Scroll.. Yeah I have a weird mouse ;P

I think it's quite possible that you work with an alien life form! I'm glad this poll has confirmed how strange my friend is, good stuff.
elsiegee40 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Left click: Index finger Right click: Middle finger Scroll wheel: Index finger Me too
TheImpossibleGirl Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Definitely left click: Index finger; right click: Middle finger and scroll: Index finger. Any other way is just weird!
synaesthesia Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I struggle to keep my big toe on the left button so I prefer to grip with my little toe. Seriously though, I've always been index on left mouse button, middle on scroll and right mouse button, and 4th/little fingers on the right of the mouse.
SiliconAlley_Sam Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Sat here trying to do "the three finger scroller", it's impossible!

I had a friend back in Middle School who was born with deformed hands, he actually used to be perfectly able to use his feet and toes to control a mouse it was quite fascinating, to add to this list he could also paint and write using his feet. I do the three finger scroller, think of the extra effort involved moving that one finger over to the scroller and then scrolling, wouldn't you all be more efficient using three fingers on all buttons at once for quick fast moving action

Haha - Brilliant, though I'm fortunate enough to be able to eat a whole pack of hob nobs most days and never put on a pound, this will change of course but I will be as lazy as I can be for as long as I can and if that means using three fingers I shall
ICTDirect_Dave Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 All of you are strange!! This is the only way to use a mouse! Admittedly apparently I'm the only one in the office who thinks so....

Admittedly apparently I'm the only one in the office who thinks so.... I'm the same... But to be fair, I have a legitimate reason This is my mouse: So yea, I have a reason to scroll + click at the same time, and use my thumb

ICTDirect_Dave Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Minimal effort, maximum control... Crazy? It's you lot who're crazy!
Oaktech Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Right thumb: left side grip, index finger: left click and scroll, middle finger: right click, 3rd finger right grip, little finger: balance.
