Are you left or right handed?

I am right handed for mosts tasks but for some, I can't decide. For example, my knife and fork can switch hands several times during a meal. I don't know why it just seems like the ting to do at the time.

Left handed here (for most things). I use a mouse with my right hand though. Probably because computers are laid out with keyboard then mouse on the right. And the first computer I used had a mouse shaped for right handed use:

I am right handed but in the minority in my family. I eat left handed cause that was how my mum set the table. All my sons are lefties as are my sister, cousins and granny and aunts.

I'm one of those wierdo's who can do everything equally well with either hand. I write right handed (but only because my left arm was broken when I started school), I used to be a 2 handicapper playing golf left handed but a back injury meant I had to switch hands so now I'm a scratch golfer playing right handed (still putt left handed though), I throw right, play racket sports left, snooker/pool either, eat left etc.

 

I'm also very dyslexic which probably explains a lot

My 10 year old is a lefty but does a lot of things right handed. Probably just because that is what he has got used to. I set his computer up left handed once and he asked me to switch it back because it was annoying (though he doesn't mind if the mouse is on the left or the right side). Have tried to get him to eat left handed as well as he is still very awkward using a knife but he says that doing it the "left handed" way is even more difficult. Other than that though most other things he will quite happily switch between hands.

 

For you guys out there that grew up writing left handed, what was your handwriting like as a kid and has it improved over time? My boy has fairly messy handwriting compared to a lot of other kids his age and I wonder how much is just because he cant actually see what he is writing as he is doing it or if he just has messy handwriting.

I was left handed until i started primary school. When the teacher saw me trying to write with my left, they forced me to use my right. I now cannot write neatly with either, i think (hope) schools are more easy going now.

Im right handed but became very proficient with my left when I broke my right arm several years ago. I dont have quite the same dexterity but I can get by.

I think a lot of it is a basic "side-ness" coupled with living in the world that we do. Only a few left-handed guitarists bother to restring their instruments, and, whilst you can play a trumpet left-handed, you cannot play a French Horn with anything other than your left hand on the valves - you can't turn it over!

I deliberately do a lot of things left-handed purely because I cannot bear the thought of having a side that is next to useless.

The handwriting question is an interesting one. mrwITch writes appallingly with his right hand, but does everything else left-handed so I think he should actually be left-handed. His younger sister IS left handed and has large, neat writing.

Weirdly, mrwITch will lay the table for left-handers automatically, even though he eats as if right-handed

Reading back through this thread, the cutlery thing is interesting. I'm right handed but eat in what's considered the left handed way, with the fork in my right hand and the knife in my left. So does my parter. I still have to set the table with the cutlery the other way around though otherwise I get glared at.

Ambi - but I usually favour my right.

 

I write with my right hand (can do left, but it's a bit messy), my mouse is on the right side of my keyboard, I cue with a snooker or pool cue right handed and at airsoft I usually (unless I need to change it round) hold my rifle right handed. I'm comfortable with all of these things left handed, just I usually use my right.

 

However - I eat left handed, I wear a watch left handed (as I wear it on my right wrist), my phone usually resides in my left pocket and my sidearm for airsoft is usually carried to be drawn and used left handed.

My right hand is a plunger and my left is an egg whisk.

 

I'm unsure what hand i am as i use both, one for cleaning the toilets and one for whisking for example.

 

Also my egg whisk doubles up as a death ray.... and my plunger can hack into any known system....

I'm left handed for pretty much everything except eating. My brother is right handed for everything except eating. He's the weird one, obviously...
