I knew the majority of ham \ bacon on pizza was actually turkey but didn't realise it was fake cheese. Kinda makes sense now why I like pizza and usually hate cheese!

I've never heard it called that before, but fake cheese is popular in the USA, so I'm not surprised it's used here too.

 

I wonder if they sprayed some Easy Cheese on the pizzas?

More old-fashioned than digital cheese, but purists still swear by it. I remember first encountering "rice cheese" in the US - like cheese, but made from rice rather than milk. When you think about it, probably actually better - less fat content, less resources to produce, and I couldn't tell the difference.

I'm not aiming this at the commentators here but I do wonder how many of the 'outraged of lancaster' types in the comments on that website will start thinking "maybe there's a reason this pizza chain is cheaper than that artisan pizza resteraunt" and start to be more careful about where they place their orders, or will they continue to think "Hey, 2 pizzas the size of bus tyres, 2 litres of coke and a big tub of icecream delivered for £12 on this 'football night special offer', woot!"

I kind of went off Pizza Hut after seeing the aerosols of "Garlic Butter flavoured spray" being used liberally

The fake cheese on Pizza thing came up a few years ago. There were articles on how they make the fake cheese - they spray things like almond or rice milk onto sheets or something with some sort of thickener so it isn't quite as bad as it sounds.

Things like Kraft are considered not to be real cheese as well.

It's not just takeaway pizzas. I stumbled across "analogue cheese" on the ingredients of a frozen pizza at tesco a few years back. Doesn't bother me too much as it's not quite as bad as it sounds but it did shock me.

Oh for a copy editor, to enforce the correct use of "analog". Have we all gotten so lazy that even journalists can't be bothered to use good English what works proper?

 

I hear analogue cheese has a warmer taste than digital cheese, but you need a $1500 spoon to really appreciate the dynamic range of the flavours.

As someone who was a vegan for quite some time, I am amazed that fake cheese that melts exists. I searched high and low for a good 8 or so years for a good cheese substitute, but it was either something that tasted like play dough, or turned to chalk when cooked.

 

Why isn't this stuff available easily in shops?!

I hate Pizza anyway,used to work in a Pizza Place, of which everyone in the town thought it was the best quality restaurant, of how wrong they where. The whole kitchen was filthy and the chefs used to go to the back and use drugs. Weed, Cocaine, those kind of things. The manager was involved in it all too so he never cared. I was around 14 at the time as a pot wash.

 

After the things I've seen I'll never eat a Pizza again unless it's from a supermarket! Ugh.

What makes you think a supermarket one would be any better? And surely a place like Pizza Express where they make the pizzas in plain sight would be OK?

 

I did delivery work for a local branch of Dominos for a very short period once, their preparation standards looked good to me. I guess the thing to do is to look for those Hygiene Rating stickers on the outside of the place.
